Nabal’s ungratefulness

When David's troop reached at Carmel, he met some shepherds who had a serious problem. They worried much about it.
1 Samuel 25: 37-38

David wandered with his soldiers because Saul hated him much.

When David's troop reached at Carmel, he met some shepherds who had a serious problem. they worried much about it.

David asked them,

" What is your problem?"" you know... in every night, many thieves came and stole our sheep. so we are worry. “said the shepherds.

" No way! from tonight, we will guard and keep your sheep . Don't worry!"

For many days,

David's soldiers helped the shepherds keep and guard their sheep to not lose. The shepherds gave thanks to them.

David's soldiers stayed in the dessert.

They did not have enough food because Saul tried to hunt them.

One soldier came and said,

““Sir, Nabal whom we helped before is shearing sheep in Carmel.”” ““Okay! I think he will surely give food because we helped his shepherds to guard his sheep day and night.””

David’s soldiers came to Nabal.

““Hello, we are here because the son of Jesse sent us to you. We are in the dessert. Would you pleases help us?’

Nabal was thoughtless and wicked. He got angry to them.

““Who is this son of Jesse? Why I should give my thing to this stranger? Go away!””

David’s men went back and reported to David. David was angry very much.

 ““He is not grateful person. Now we will attack Nabal’s family and kill them all.””

David’s soldier went to Carmel to kill Nabal.  It is a critical moment for many innocent people might be died because of Nabal.

One of the servants told Nabal’s wife Abigail.

““Madam, we are in big trouble.”” 

 ““What is wrong with us?””

 ““David sent messengers from the desert to give our master his greeting, but he hurried insults at them. Yet these men were very good to us. Maybe David will attack and kill us.”” 

 However, Abigail was a wise woman.

She prepared very delicious food and went to David. She bowed down before David and told him. ““I heard you are a righteous man. My husband is such a wicked and foolish man. It is useless even though you kill him.  Please take my food and gifts, and forgive.

When David communicated with Abigail, he realized that she is a wise woman.

“Okay, I will do what you say. May you be blessed for your good judgment and for keeping me from bloodshed this day. Go home in peace. I have heard your words and granted your requests.”

When Abigail went to Nabal, he was in the house holding a banquet like that of a king. He was in high spirits and very drunk. So she told him nothing until daybreak.

Then in the morning, Abigail told Nabal.

 ““You know, yesterday, David came with his soldiers to kill you.  Because of your wrongdoing, you and all your servants were in danger situation.””

 Nabal’s heart failed and he became like a stone.

Then he was sick from that day. About ten days later, he died finally. The Lord struck him who cursed David, the man of God. Nabal was dead because he received grace but never give thanks.

It is very easy to become like Nabal. As David kept Nabal’s sheep, God always protects us. And God ask us to pray, worship and evangelize. But if we ignore God’s favor like Nabal, He will ignore us either. We should be a man of faith and give thank to Him..
