 5_c.gif text- 2 Kings 5:14

So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.

1

Naaman washed seven times and became healed

2

So he went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. [NKJV] 2 King 5:14

3

There was a great commander in Aram. His name was Naaman. Everyone praised him.

4

However, he had a secret. He had an incurable sickness. Today, we call that sickness, Hansen¡¯s disease. At that time, it was a very serious disease, called leprosy.

5

Naaman and his wife worried so much.  ¡°How will this leprosy be cured? I will do whatever it takes if only somebody can heal my disease!¡± One maid servant saw how much they suffered.

6

This girl was a captive of Israel and worked for Naaman¡¯s wife. She told her master. ¡°Master, try to meet a prophet in Samaria. I heard he can heal any disease.¡±

7

When Naaman heard this, he ran to the king of Aram. ¡°Lord, there is a prophet who can heal my disease in Israel.¡± Naaman told him what the girl had said.

8

¡° I will send a letter to the king of Israel to cure your leprosy. Now go now  and cure your disease.¡± The king was glad and wrote the letter.

9

Naaman prepared a lot of gifts and brought with him the letter and went to Israel as quickly as he could.

10

However, the king was shocked when he read the letter. Because the letter said, ¡° I am sending my servant, Naaman to you. Please heal his disease.¡±

11

The king tore his robes and said, ¡°Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me!¡±

12

When Elisha heard this, he sent a man to the king and said, ¡°why have you torn your robes? Have the man come to me and he will know that there is a prophet in Israel.¡± The king of Israel told Naaman to go where Elisha lived.

13

So Naaman went with all his horses and chariots.  When he arrived, there was a man waiting for him at the door.

14

¡° I am here to deliver Elisha¡¯s message. He said, ¡¯Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleaned.¡±

15

Naaman was very angry because Elisha had not welcomed him but he had only sent a message through a servant.  ¡° I thought that he would surely come out to me and stand and call on the name of Lord his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me of my leprosy. The rivers of my country are better than any of the waters of Israel. Why do I have to wash in the Jordan? Let¡¯s go back.¡± Angrily, Naaman turned and went off in a rage.

16

Naaman¡¯s servants went to him and said, ¡°My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ¡®Wash and be cleaned¡¯!¡± So he decided to do it.

17

He took off his clothes and he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan.

18

He did this seven times as Elisha had said. At first, he did not want do it but finally he obeyed. What do you think, was he healed after washing seven times?

19

Yes, It was a miracle! His body was restored and cleaned like that of a young boy. He was so happy. However, he regretted that he had not obeyed the first time.

20

Naaman came back to Elisha and thanked him by giving him gifts.  ¡°Now, I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. Please accept now a gift from your servant.¡±

21

¡°As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing.¡± Even though Naaman urged him, he refused.

22

¡°If you will not, please let me be given as much as a pair of mules can carry, for your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the Lord.¡± From that moment, Naaman began to believe God who had healed him.

23

If Naaman had insisted and disobeyed what Elisha had said, then he would not have been able to be healed from his disease. In this way, if we believe and obey the word of God, we surely will experience miracles in our lives. As God healed Naaman, He can answer all of your prayers of faith for He is Almighty. I hope every one of you believe our wonderful God and obey Him so that you too can be people of faith.
