Abram
left his father and his country
2
The LORD had
said to Abram, ¡°Go from your country, your people and your father¡¯s household
to the land I will show you. ¡°I will make you into a great nation, and
I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.I
will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all
peoples on earth will be blessed through you.¡±So Abram went, as the LORD had
told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set
out from Harran.[NIV] Genesis 12:1-4

Here is Mesopotamia.
It was
very bustling with people because this city was a commercial city.
4
But the
people there were pagans and they worshipped idols, like the sun,
the moon,
and other things and considered them to be gods.
5
Terah
was the 10th generation son of Noah and had 3 sons named Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Although he was from Noah¡¯s lineage he never committed his life to God instead he
made and sold idols.

Abram
married his beautiful wife Sarai. But she failed to give Abram children for
she was barren. They were very sad because they could not have a baby. So
they really loved their nephew Lot.
Through
this they were comforted.

One day,
God appeared to Abram the son of Terah, ¡°Abram! Abram!¡° He was so afraid that
he bowed down to the ground. The LORD said to Abram, "Leave your
country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will
show you.¡°

God
continued by saying, ¡°You have been chosen to be a blessing to all the people
in the world and your offspring will be as many as the stars in the sky and
the sand on the shore. So you must leave this land and go to the place that I
say to you.

Even
though God had left him, His promise was still resonating in his ears. "I
will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name
great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and
whoever curses you I will curse; and all the people on the earth will be
blessed through you."

Abram
decided and said,
¡°Yes,
I will obey God; if I obey Him, He will make me a blessing to all the people
in the world and my offspring will be as many as the stars in the sky and the
sand on the shore.¡±

Abram
gathered his whole family and told them that they needed to leave.
His family
was so surprised and tried to prevent him but he stood firm. However, his
nephew wanted to come with him.
12
So
Abram, Sarai, and Lot left the following morning and brought their belongings
with them to Canaan, the place that God wanted them to go.
They didn¡¯t
know why they were told to go there but they went
because
they trusted God.
13
They
placed their trust in God and His guidance and after a long journey
they
finally reached the land of Canaan.
14
Abram,
Sarai, and Lot were filled with joy knowing that God helped
them
reach their destination.
Abram
looked around the place to remind him of God¡¯s promise.
15
Abram made an altar to worship God. He
resolved to obey God and become ¡°the father of faith¡± and ¡°the father of all
nations.¡± Also his offspring greatly increased over all of the earth just as
God promised. Today also God will greatly increase his blessings to those who
obey him as Abram did. Today my friend, please obey God and live like Abram
did.
