Miracle
at Bethesda
2
Then
Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and walk."
At
once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.
The day on which this took place was a
Sabbath. (John 5:8-9)

Many
people gathered around a pool in Jerusalem.
Because
the pool was known for making marvelous miracles.
4
It
was said that an angel went down from heaven at a certain season and the
angel would stir the water. Whoever
first stepped into the pool after the stirring of the water was cured no
matter which disease they had.
5
Here
a great number of disabled people used to lie-the blind, the lame, the
paralyzed, because
of this rumor. They
were always looking at the water to step into it first when the water was
stirred.
6
A
paralyzed man was at one corner of the pool.
This
man had suffered with the disease for thirty-eight long years.
7
Jesus
came to the man. Jesus knew how long he had suffered with that disease.
"Do
you want to get well?" Jesus asked him.
8
The
invalid said to Jesus, "Sir, I have no one to help me into the pool
when
the water is stirred.
While
I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me."
9
The
man was looking at Jesus and said with a hopeless face.
The
man really wanted to get well. He
said that he could not get well because the others went down to the pool
ahead of him.
10
At
that moment, Jesus said to him, "Get up! Pick up your mat and
walk."
After
hearing that the man was surprised.
11
As
soon as Jesus said that, he felt something in his body.
His
hands and feet started to be strengthened.
At
once the man was cured. It was a miracle.
12
And
the man was able to get up.
He
was so glad that he jumped up with joy.
His
long illness had disappeared by only a word from Jesus.
13
The
man picked up his mat and left the pool called Bethesda as Jesus had said.
He
was cured of his illness and went back to his home in good health.
Jesus
had treated his disease.
14
Jesus
is able to cure a long-lasting disease because he is the Son of God.
So
Jesus could cure a thirty-eight years old disease no matter
how
long it had been with only a word.
15
After
hearing this story about the pool called Bethesda, people who believe in
Jesus should have more faith. That is our master, Jesus, who can not only
cure disease but also do even bigger miracles.
16
Therefore,
we should not be sad or disappointed whatever we face.
Because
Jesus can resolve our every problem and give us good presents if we depend
only on Him.
Also,
we should always thank Jesus that we are God's children.
