God knew
David¡¯s heart
2
So he sent and had him brought in. He
was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome features. Then the LORD said,
"Rise and anoint him; he is the one." So Samuel took the horn of
oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on
the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power. Samuel then went to Ramah.
(1 Samuel 16:12~13)

Saul had become the
first king in Israel but he did not obey God's words and acted as he liked.God decided to set a
new king instead of Saul. So God appeared to Samuel the high priest.
4
The Bible says, God
said to Samuel, "I have rejected Saul as king over Israel.
Fill your horn with oil and be on your way. I am sending you to Jesse of
Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king."
5
Samuel was surprised
and said to God, "How can I
go? Saul will hear about it and kill me."
6
God said to Samuel,
"Take a heifer with you and say, 'I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.'
Invite Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show you what to do.
You are to anoint for me the one I indicate."
7
Samuel arrived at
Bethlehem with a heifer to obey God's order. When Samuel, the high
priest, suddenly came there, the elders trembled when they met him.
8
Samuel said to them,
"I have come to sacrifice to the LORD.
Clean yourselves and come to the sacrifice with
me."
Then he consecrated Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice.
9
When Jesse' sons
arrived there, Samuel saw and thought of Eliab, David's oldest brother. ¡®God will choose this tall, handsome, and first son as the next king.'
Do you think that God also thought the same?
10
But God said to
Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for
I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at.
Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
11
Then
Jesse called Abinadab and had him pass in front of Samuel.
But
Samuel said, "The LORD has not chosen this one either."
Jesse
then had Shammah pass by, but Samuel said, "Nor has the LORD chosen this
one."
12
So he asked Jesse,
"The LORD has not chosen them.
Are these all the
sons you have?"
13
"There
is still the youngest," Jesse answered, "but he is tending the
sheep."
Samuel
said, "Send for him; we will not sit down until he arrives."
14
So
he sent and had him brought in.
He was ruddy, with a fine appearance and handsome features.
Then the LORD said, "He is the one. Rise and anoint him. "
The LORD had chosen the youngest son.
15
So Samuel took the
horn of oil and anointed him as God's words in the presence of his brothers.
And from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon him in power. His name
was David. He would later became a great king of Israel.

We sometimes
concentrate so much on making our outward appearance look great yet God does
not bless our appearance alone.
17
God looks at our
heart. God looks at how we love God and obey His words.
We may have fooled people but we cannot fool God.
At first, we should serve God in our hearts and become people who please God.
