Jesus¡¯ Seven Last Words on the Cross

2

Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."

When he had said this, he breathed his last. (Luke 23:46)

3

This week is Passion week, remembering the time when Jesus died on the cross for our sins.

I hope that you would think about the love Jesus gave us with a tranquil heart this week.

4

Jesus took all of the suffering on that cross to wash away all of our sins.

He had been suffering a lot as he hung on the cross for six hours.

5

While Jesus hung on the cross, he said seven last words.

Each word was an important lesson to us even while he was in pain.

6

On the cross, Jesus saw them divide his clothes by casting lots.

However, he forgave the people who crucified him.

"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."

7

Jesus did not hate or curse the people who crucified him.

Instead, he prayed for them to be forgiven by God.

Jesus begged for God to forgive them who did not know him.

8

There were two criminals and Jesus was between them.

One of the two asked Jesus, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

9

After listening to his words, Jesus felt pity for him and said to him,

"Today, you will be with me in paradise."

Even at his last moment, Jesus saved a man and let him go to heaven.

10

There were Jesus' mother and John under the cross where Jesus was crucified.

Mary was watching her son's death and crying also.

11

Jesus showed his love to his mother by comforting her on the cross.

"Mother, John next to you will be your son instead. John, this is your mother from now on." Jesus asked John to take care of his mother like a son after he was gone.

12

Jesus suffered on the cross not because he had no power.

He could have called his many angels and punished the people who had crucified him.  But Jesus knew that if he didn't die on the cross, then we would not be saved. So Jesus endured the pain.

13

Because Jesus came to the earth with the same body like us, he suffered all of the pain. Jesus was in such pain and agony, that he cried out in a loud voice, "Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?" which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" The cross was as painful as God forsaking him.

14

Jesus said, "I am thirsty." Jesus also felt hurt and thirst even though he is God.

His pain was too hard to express on the cross.

15

Jesus had done God's plan to save us in pain on the cross.

So he said, "It is finished."

Finally, Jesus proclaimed that he had achieved all of his plans on the earth.

16

Before dying, Jesus said to God, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."

When he had said this, he breathed his last.

17

Jesus did not die for his own sin but for our sins.

Jesus endured to accomplish God's plan and let us go to heaven even though he had to suffer on the cross.

18

If you believe in Jesus who died on the cross because of your sins and accept Jesus with your whole heart, you will have eternal life as a gift and be able to go to heaven. You should have a thankful heart about Jesus' grace if you believe in Jesus already. If you don't believe in Jesus, I hope that now is the time that you will serve Jesus in your heart and receive eternal life as a gift.
