Wash in the
Pool of Siloam
2
(John
9:7)
"Go,"
he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" (this word means Sent). So
the man went and washed, and came home seeing.
3
Jesus
was walking along with the disciples.
Jesus
saw a blind man on the street.
4
The
disciples asked Jesus, "Rabbi,
who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?" In those
days, the Jews believed that the people who were born handicapped were made
that way because of sin.
5
"Neither
this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus,
"but
this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life."
6
"As long as it
is day, we must do the work of him who sent me.
Night
is coming, when no one can work. I will do God's work as I can."
7
The
words meant that Jesus would suffer at the cross and die.
Jesus
knew that he would be crucified for us so he made sure that all he did was
for God.
8
Then
Jesus approached the man.
The
disciples wondered what Jesus would do.
9
He
spit on the ground and made some mud with the saliva.
What
would Jesus do with this? The disciples wondered and kept watching.
10
Jesus
put it on the man's eyes and said to him,
"Go
and wash in the Pool of Siloam."
11
After
hearing Jesus, he went to the Pool of Siloam right away.
Siloam
meant
Sent.
12
The
man eagerly went to wash his eyes with the water of Siloam as Jesus had told
him.
13
After
washing the mud away, the man was surprised.
He
could see something.
It
was amazing.
14
The
man shouted, "I can see it. I can see it."
He
was healed.
15
The
people who saw the man running said, "Isn't this the same man who used to sit and
beg?" "Yes, that's right. It is miracle. What is going on?"
Others
said, "No, he only looks like him."
16
But
he himself insisted, "I am the man.
I
am the beggar who could not see until this morning."
17
The
people questioned, "How then were your eyes opened?" He replied,
"The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me
to go to Siloam and wash.
So
I went and washed, and then I could see."
18
Even
though he was a blind beggar, when he had obeyed as Jesus said to him, he
experienced a great miracle. God's greatness was showed to him by making his
eyes opened.
19
We
can receive the grace of God like him.
It
is not difficult.
If
you live as God's Word says, you will see miracles happen all around you,
too.
