The
Transfiguration
2
(Luke 9:33)
As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him,
"Master, it is good for us to be here.
Let us put up three shelters--one for you, one
for Moses and one for Elijah."
(He did not know what he was saying.)
3
Jesus spent his time preaching the gospel and
healing many sick people.
4
However, Jesus never stopped praying to God even
when he was busy.
Jesus took Peter, John and James with him and
went up onto a mountain to pray.
5
As he was praying, the appearance of his face
changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning. The
disciples were surprised.
6
The disciples were sleepy when the appearance of
Jesus' face changed, and his clothes became as bright as a flash of lightning.
7
When they were fully awake, the disciples were startled.
Two more people were talking with Jesus. Who
were they?
8
The first was Moses. He was the great leader who
led the Israelites out of Egypt.
Moses appeared and talked with Jesus.
9
The second was Elijah. Elijah worked many
miracles and went up into heaven without dying.
He also talked with Jesus.
10
Jesus, Moses and Elijah gathered together to
talk about Jesus' death at the cross for our survation.
11
After finishing talking, Moses and Elijah were
about to go up to heaven again.
12
As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said,
"Master, it is good for us to be here.
Let us put up three shelters. One for you, one
for Moses and one for Elijah.
Peter felt that the scene was too magnificent
and too amazing to keep watching.
13
While he was speaking, a cloud appeared and
enveloped them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
14
A voice came from the cloud, saying, "This
is my Son, whom I have chosen. Listen to him."
15
When the voice had spoken, the cloud disappeared
and they found that Jesus was alone.
16
We call this mountain the mount of
transfiguration where Jesus changed into a glorious figure. On the mountain,
three disciples surely saw and believed in Jesus who is the Son of God.
17
We should believe in Jesus, the Son of God who
came to earth to save us from our sins. There are many people who do not
believe in Jesus as God's son. So we should tell them that Jesus truly is the
Son of God.
