David in Trouble

2

(I Samuel 21:3)

Now then, what do you have on hand?

Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever you can find."

3

We are often in trouble even though we try to live peacefully.
The great king, David in Israel was in big trouble before he became a king.

4

The people liked David because he defeated the giant named Goliath.
But King Saul thought of him very badly.
'The people prefer David to me. David will take my place.'

5

Saul thought to kill David.
So while David was playing the harp, Saul tried to throw a spear.
David barely avoided the spear and ran away.

6

David began to run away and to avoid Saul's eyes.
David ran away from Saul with his followers.
They went up to Nob.

7

David visited a priest who could help him.
The priest was named Ahimelech.
Ahimelech did not know that David had been chased by Saul.

8

David asked for bread for himself and he said to Ahimelech that David accepted something special by the king Saul. Because Ahimelech did not have any ordinary bread on hand, he gave some consecrated bread, since there was no bread there except the bread of the Presence that had been removed from before the LORD and replaced by hot bread on the day it was taken away.

9

David asked Ahimelech. "Don't you have a spear or a sword here?
I haven't brought my sword or any other weapon.
Because the king's business was urgent. If you have sword, give it to me."

10

Ahimelech replied, "The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed.
If you need it, take it."
David happily took it.

11

The party of David ran away not to be caught by Saul to Achish king of Gath.
Here was the hometown of Goliath whom David had killed.
David was so urgent that he escaped to the enemy's country.

12

However, the country's people noticed David.
David was so afraid that he thought he may die there.
David became so weak.

13

Then David got an idea to live. David pretended to be insane in their presence. And while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard. In order to live he acted in an abnormal behavior.

14

King Achish kicked the insane David out of his city.
David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam.
After that David kept fleeing from Saul for a long time and spent an unfair time.

15

David had killed Goliath and was praised by all the people. Since then the people endured hardships because they preferred David over Saul.

16

David surely believed that God would keep himself safe in any difficult situation.
He would not sin and lived pleasing God with a true heart.
Finally, God allowed David to become the great king of Israel.

17

Sometimes we face difficulties even though we do not do anything wrong. For example, when friends intentionally make us get into trouble. When we are in a bad situation, we should not give up on Jesus and keep believing in God. Then God will lift us up high like David.
