Abraham
Kindly Entertained Strangers
2
Do
not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have
entertained angels without knowing it. (Hebrews 13:2)
3
Abraham
built tents and lived near a forest with lots of huge trees.
4
It
was a very hot morning.
It
was so hot that Abraham sat at the entrance to his tent.
It
was too hot so Abraham might have been dozing off.
5
Then
Abraham opened his eyes and he saw three people were standing near his house.
Abraham
stood up very surprised and he ran to them.
6
Abraham
fell down to the ground and he greeted them.
In
the time of Abraham, when meeting a special visitor, one of the customs for
showing great respect was to bow before them.
7
Abraham
said to them,
"If
you don't mind it being simple, please come and enjoy a humble meal with
us."
8
Abraham
brought water for them to wash their feet.
After
washing their feet, Abraham led them to sit under a tree so that they could
feel comfortable. Dust storms blew in the region where Abraham lived so when
visitors came, the people offered water to wash their feet.
9
Abraham
quickly went to his wife Sarah and said,
"Quickly
bring flour and bake bread."
Sarah
listened to Abraham and baked bread.
10
Abraham
brought out one good calf and Abraham gave to his servant and said,
"Cook
this calf to make a delicious meal."
So
the servant cooked the calf.
11
Through
the food, Abraham gratefully hosted the guests.
While
they were eating the food, Abraham served them.
With
a very happy heart, Abraham hosted the guests.
12
The
people that Abraham greeted that day were angels sent from God.
Without
any intention, Abraham hosted angels sent from God.
By
the kind personality of hosting others, Abraham was able to do this special
thing.
13
The
angels sent from God told Abraham about a great present.
"Around
this day next year, I will surely visit you again. At that time, your wife
Sarah will have a son." The
angels told them their biggest wish of Abraham and Sarah would be fulfilled.
14
Sure
enough, Abraham and Sarah had a son the very next year.
The
name of the son was Isaac.
15
Hebrews
13:2 talks about the story of Abraham.
Don¡¯t
forget to entertain visitors.
Some
people entertained angels while entertaining strangers without knowing it.
16
We
have received special love from Jesus.
Rather
than life, Jesus gave us salvation and salvation was what we needed.
17
We,
who believe in Jesus, should do things with a kind heart for helping other
friends in our daily lives. By Abraham entertaining the people who passed by,
he received a great blessing of entertaining angels, just like those who help
others with that kind heart will also receive great blessings like Abraham.
Carefully look at the people around you and find those people whom you should
help out of love and I hope you will become children of Jesus who will help
them kindly like Abraham.
