 5_c.gif text- 1 Samuel 26:8~10

Abishai said to David, "Today God has delivered your enemy into your hands. Now let me pin him to the ground with one thrust of my spear; I won't strike him twice."
But David said to Abishai, "Don't destroy him! Who can lay a hand on the LORD'S anointed and be guiltless?
As surely as the LORD lives," he said, "the LORD himself will strike him; either his time will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish.

David Trusted God Until the End

2

(I Samuel 26:8-10)

Abishai said to David, "Today God has delivered your enemy into your hands. Now let me pin him to the ground with one thrust of my spear; I won't strike him twice." But David said to Abishai, "Don't destroy him! Who can lay a hand on the LORD'S anointed and be guiltless? As surely as the LORD lives," he said, "the LORD himself will strike him; either his time will come and he will die, or he will go into battle and perish.

3

King Saul was the first king of Israel and he hated David very much.
So much that he tried many times to kill David.
David and his men had to move many places to hide from Saul.

4

One day, one person came to King Saul.
"David is hiding in a hill named Hakilah."
That person told King Saul where David was hiding.

5

By hatred and jealousy, King Saul brought 3,000 soldiers and searched the whole Desert of Ziph. But because God protected David, King Saul and the soldiers were not able to find him.

6

David already knew that King Saul was coming with soldiers.

Through some scouts, David found out that Saul was close.

7

King Saul encamped in the safest place to prepare for a sudden attack.
Even though, Abner, the commander of the army, was together in the camp of Saul. Yet, David had already checked out where Saul was staying.

8

David asked his men, "Who will go with me to the camp of Saul?"

Abishai bravely said, "I will go."

9

At night, David and Abishai secretly went into the camp of Saul.
Secretly, they went to the tent of Saul.
Saul and his commander, Abner, were sleeping so they did not notice that David had come.

10

Abishai said to David, "Today, God has allowed you to destroy your enemy.
Just order me and I will kill him right away."
Saul is now as a dead man.

11

David said to Abishai, "No, do not kill Saul. I know that God who raised King Saul is going to punish him for his wrong doings so I don't think that I should kill King Saul. Just get the spear and water jug that are near his head and let us go."

12

David had the chance to kill Saul but he did not. David only got the spear and the water jug then he left the camp. Since God put Saul's army into a deep sleep, none of them noticed when they had come and when they had gone.

13

David went up to a hill and shouted loudly towards the camp of Saul.
"Abner. Abner. Answer me if you can hear me."
Abner answered, "Who are you that you are waking up the king in the middle of the night?"

14

David said, "Aren't you the greatest soldier in this Israel? But why didn't you protect your lord the king? You did not protect God's anointed, your lord the king. Now look! Look where are the spear and water jug that were near the king's head."

15

Upon hearing David, Saul was surprised and knew that his spear and water jug were gone. King Saul shouted loudly to David.
"David, my son. Come back. Today, you have considered my life very precious. So from now on, I will not try to harm you. I have made a huge mistake."

16

David believed that God would give the victory to the righteous person so David did not kill Saul by himself.  King Saul did wrong things in front of God so later on he miserably died in a battle.

17

Sometimes, we also meet some friends who give us a hard time like King Saul. When you meet those friends, think about David. Remember, God is the one who will punish those people who are doing wrong things so until the end, only rely on God and entrust your problems to Him.
