1

Saul Obeyed His Father

2

(I Samuel 15:17)
Samuel said, "Although you were once small in your own eyes, did you not become the head of the tribes of Israel? The LORD anointed you king over Israel.

3

Among the people who belonged to the Tribe of Benjamin, there was a person named Kish. This person was a very powerful soldier.

4

Kish had a son called Saul. Kish's son, Saul was taller than other people.
Saul was very handsome so much that there was a saying that in Israel there was no person who was more handsome than Saul.

5

One day, the donkeys in Kish's house became missing.
No matter how he searched, the donkeys were not found.

6

Kish called his son Saul and said. "Saul, bring one servant, go and find the donkeys."
Saul did not complain and obeyed the words of his father.

7

Saul didn't know where those donkeys went. But he obeyed the words of his father and headed out to find the donkeys. First of all, he started to search for the donkeys in the nearby hill country called Ephraim.

8

To find his father's donkeys, Saul worked very hard and he looked everywhere. Saul went to Shalisha, Shaalim and even he went as far as the territory of Benjamin. But they could not find the donkeys.

9

On the third day, Saul and his servant even went to a territory called Zuph to find the donkeys. But they still were not able to find them.

10

So much time had passed, so Saul became anxious that his father would worry about him. So Saul told the servant that he would go back home. Just like this, Saul was a good child who had a heart of not wanting to make his father worry.

11

At that moment, his servant said, "A man of God lives nearby this place. If you will ask him, maybe we can find the donkeys of the master." Upon hearing these words, just like what his servant had said, Saul went to find the man of God.

12

The prophet Samuel already knew that Saul would come. The day before, God appeared to Samuel and told him. "Tomorrow, around this time, one person will come to you. He is a man who will become the king of Israel. Samuel, pour oil on his head and set him up as king. "

13

When Samuel met Saul, God spoke again.
"This person who came to you now is the man who will rule over Israel."
God already had decided for Saul to become the king of Israel.

14

That day, Samuel poured oil onto Saul.
Pouring the oil shows that God anointed Saul to become the king.
Saul became the first king of Israel.

15

God was so happy that Saul obeyed his father's words and that Saul had that humble attitude. So, God set that Saul to be the first king of Israel. Saul was so thankful for receiving a big blessing which he did not expect.

16

God is always watching our daily lives.
God saw Saul's humbleness of obeying his father's words so God made Saul to be the first king of Israel.

17

In order for anyone to obey the words of their parents they should have a humble heart. God lifts up a person who has that humble heart. I hope you will also become friends of faith by remembering this. Saul truthfully obeyed his parents' words and Saul did the things that made his parents happy. God closely observes people like Saul and God lifts up those people.
