The
Parable of the Rich Fool
2
[Luke 12:20]
"But God said to him, ¡®You fool! This very
night your life will be demanded from you.
Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?'"

One day, a man came to Jesus and said.
"Jesus, my brother doesn't want to divide
the inheritance from my father."
This young man was asking for Jesus to solve the
problem because of his greed for money.
4
Jesus replied, ¡°I am not your judge."
Then he went on to explain to them through a
parable that life is more important than
money no matter what the amount.
5
There was a rich man who loved money. He had a
good crop that year.
He reaped such a good harvest that he could live
without working for a long time.
The ground of a certain rich man yielded an
abundant harvest. (vs.17)
"He thought to himself, ¡®What shall I do? I
have no place to store my crops."
6
The barn was too small to keep all of his crops.
So he decided to tear down his barns and build bigger ones that could contain
all of the crops.
7
The rich man tore down the smaller barns and
built bigger barns incomparable to the previous ones. The barns were built to
be big and wonderful. Therefore, the rich man was so happy.
8
His crops were kept in his new big barns.
He was so happy to see his new barns full of
crops.
This man became richer beyond compare than
before.
9
This rich man said to himself.
"What a life, You have plenty of grain laid
up for many years.
Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry."
10
But God was looking at all of this and said to
him, "You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you.
Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?"
11
This rich man had worked very hard and had made
lots of money because he wanted to live the rest of his life in rest and have
a wonderful life but now he could not.
He could not use any of his property because he
did not know that he would die that very night.
12
He loved money and he was so eager to make money
that he had neglected to be
interested in knowing and serving God.
He did not know that God is the one who is
responsible for life.
13
After telling this parable, Jesus said,
"Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about
your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For
life is more than food, and the body more than clothes."
14
"God who feeds the ravens and clothes
lilies; would He not feed you?
Do not set your hearts on what you will eat or
drink like the people
who do not believe in God.
15
We, the children of God, should believe that God
is responsible for our lives.
We should seek the way to make our God happy and
take whatever He gives us believing this is the most important matter.
16
God knows what we need and He will provide
everything we need when
we do the things that make Him happy.
17
Do not be a foolish person like this rich fool
who was only eager for his own greed but had
no interest in God's will.
Rather be a person who works hard for God and
receives His blessings.
