David who Failed to Retrieve the Ark of God

2

[II Samuel 6:9-10]

David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, "How can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?" He was not willing to take the ark of the LORD to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

3

David who became the king of Israel wanted to do something that God would be pleased about. So he decided to bring the ark of God that had been stolen from the Philistines a long time ago back to his palace.

4

King David gathered thirty thousand soldiers to bring the ark of God back.
Then he prepared a fine cart, after that he was set on bringing the ark back.

5

The ark was at the house of Abinadab who lived on a house built on top of a hill.
David`s subjects carefully moved the ark to the newly made cart pulled by some cows.

6

When the ark left the house of Abinadab, one of Abinadab`s sons, Ahio, pulled the cart on the front side and the other son, Uzzah followed beside the ark. David watched that moment with joy.

7

King David and many people followed the cart carrying the ark with many other musical instruments, they also waved branches of pine trees while singing and dancing.

8

The cart came down from the hill and started to pass by the front yard of Nacon`s field.
Then, suddenly the cows pulling the cart jumped. The people were so shocked.

9

Because the cows were running and shaking, the ark on the cart was also shaking and it seemed it would fall.

10

At that time Uzzah, son of Abinadab who was following beside the cart touched the ark to prevent it from falling. However, the ark was never to be touched by any human being.

11

At that very instant when Uzzah touched the ark, God`s anger raged. Then he struck Uzzah down at that moment. Uzzah died and fell beside the ark. When the people saw this they were so shocked they could not say anything.

12

The people called that land where Uzzah died "Perez Uzza".

When we translate this to our language it means "Punishment of Uzzah."

13

King David was scared.

"How can we move the ark safely like this?" So he stopped the cart and told them to bring the ark to house of Obed-Edom.

14

The ark could not go to where King David`s was so it stayed at Obed-Edom`s house for 3 months. Since the day that the ark had entered that house wonderful blessings came down from God.

15

Why did God stop King David from moving the ark? The ark was supposed to be only carried by the priests on their shoulders by poles, however, King David did not follow that. But instead he made a new cart to be pulled by with cows and that was why God was very unhappy with that situation.

16

More so, God`s ark was only allowed to be touched by the priests and Uzzah was not a priest so he died as soon as he touched the ark.

17

Even when we serve God but we do not obey God`s ways he will be unhappy with us. So we should always serve God by doing it His Way and obey His words then at that time God will bless us.
