King David Worshiped God While Dancing

2

[II Samuel 6:21]

David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me rather than your father or anyone from his house when he appointed me ruler over the LORD'S people Israel--I will celebrate before the LORD.

3

David who was the king of Israel heard good news. "The house of Obed-Edom where the ark of God is staying has been blessed by God." When David heard this news he was really happy.

4

About three months ago King David had tried to move the ark of God to his palace and at that moment, Uzzah who had touched the ark died. So David stopped moving the ark so it was left at Obed-Edom`s house.

5

When moving the ark only the Levite priests were allowed to carry the ark on their shoulders with poles. However, David did not follow that command from God but instead he had made a new cart to be pulled by some oxen, so God was very displeased with David and he was punished for it.

6

King David planned again to bring the ark back to his palace.
This time he prepared well just as God said.

7

So David sent people to carry the ark at Obed-Edom`s house carefully.
And asked them to stop when they had walked 6 steps safely.

8

Then David worshiped God in front of the ark. King David was so happy that he danced for joy. Even though he was wearing a linen ephod he could not stop his joy.

9

All the people together with David were so happy that the ark had come back to David`s kingdom, so they shouted out for joy. They even blew trumpets because they were so happy.

10

While the ark arrived at the palace David`s wife Michal was watching it. She was not happy to see that the king was dancing with the people. "How could the king act like that in front of many people and showing off his body like that?" She began to despise him.

11

The ark of God was placed in the tent that David had prepared.
David offered burnt offerings to God and worshiped again.
Then he blessed all of the people.

12

Also, David gave to each person a loaf of bread, a cake of dates and a cake of raisins.
All the people went back to home happily after they had received the food gifts.

13

David came back to his place to bless his family. However, Michal who came to greet David said unpleasantly. "Today the king of Israel has lost his respect. You have showed your naked body to your subject`s servants. You were like a fool who did not know you were showing off your body."

14

David replied to Michal after hearing what she had said. "Yes, just like you have said I have worshiped God like a child because I was so happy. I was so happy in front of God who has made me the king so I acted like a child. However, even more so if I will lose my respect I will not care but I will keep worshiping God like that."

15

God was not happy about what Michal had said to David. And because of this God did not give children to Michal. We should be careful when criticizing others about how they worship God.

16

David valued worshiping God and thanking Him more than the respect he had, so he worshiped God with all his might.

17

The reason why we worship God is not to show off to others, but rather it is to thank God who has saved us. As we become older sometimes we may feel embarrassed to worship God. However, we should disregard our embarrassment so that we can become good children of faith who worship God like David.
