Timothy,
A Man of Good Faith
2
[II Timothy 1:5]
All
this is evidence that God's judgment is right, and as a result you will be
counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.

The
Apostle Paul once visited a place called Lystra to preach the gospel. In that
place, there was one young man who was greatly praised by the people. That
young man was Timothy.
4
Paul saw that Timothy
had very good faith.
So he asked Timothy to come along on his missionary journeys.
Upon hearing the words of Paul, Timothy humbly obeyed him.
5
When Paul left that
place, Timothy went together.
From that time on, Paul and Timothy did ministry together for a long time.
Timothy was a very precious person who was very much needed in the mission
work of Paul.
6
Paul trusted Timothy
very much.
In place of himself, Paul entrusted Timothy with the work of taking care of
the churches. Even though there were many difficulties, Timothy handled the
work very well.
7
Paul thought of
Timothy very preciously. That is written very well in his letter.
"To Timothy my true son in the faith: Grace, mercy and peace from God
the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.(1 Timothy 1:2)" Paul thought of
Timothy like his very own son.
8
Timothy's mother was
a Jew who believed in God. However, his father was not a Jew but a Hellas
(Greek) man. Timothy's relatives lived in Lystra. Timothy was raised in
Lystra as well.
9
Timothy's maternal
grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice were both woman of good faith. Ever
since Timothy was young, they taught Timothy by the words of God. They did
their best to leave their faith to Timothy.
10
If Timothy was lazy
and did not work hard when his grandmother and mother were teaching the words
of God, he never could have become such a great pastor. Timothy loved to
listen to their teachings and learn the words of God very well.
11
So, Timothy got the
faith of his grandmother and mother.
The Apostle Paul writes about that in verse 5.
"I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your
grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in
you also."
12
Timothy received the
most precious inheritance from his grandmother and mother.
That was the precious faith they had.
13
During that time, if
people believed in Jesus, they had to suffer many difficulties.
Some people even died as a martyr to keep their faith.
Some people died while fighting with lions and some got burned at the stake.
14
Even in such
difficult times, Timothy did not lose his bravery. He could have suffered
difficulties but he bravely preached the gospel to the people. He was able to
do this by the faith he got from his family.
15
The church Pastor
Timothy served was truly happy. Many people in that place respected and
followed Pastor Timothy who had good faith. Many people heard the gospel of
the pastor and believed in Jesus.
16
People who believe in
Jesus and those who have good faith in their hearts have the bravery to tell
the words of God in any place. They show the bravery of never being
embarrassed of believing in Jesus.
17
We should never be
ashamed of believing in Jesus. You should believe in Jesus and show the
faith, the faith of going to heaven and doing what is right and kind. If
other friends see how we live and believe in Jesus, then we are becoming the
people who do the most precious work. I hope you will become children of
Jesus who have such good faith.
