God Raised Peter

2

[1 Peter 2:9]

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

3

There was a man named Peter among the disciples of Jesus. Peter was also one of the greatest Apostles. Today, let us take a look on how this Peter became a great man of God.

4

fisherman. There was a time whenJesus preached the gospel on the Lake of Gennesaretwhile on Peter¡¯sboat.

5

When Jesus finished preaching the gospel, Jesus told Peter to go out into the deep water, and let down the nets for a catch. Peter said, ¡°Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.¡±

6

However, an amazing miracle happened when Peter obeyed Jesus;a large number of fish were caught that the nets began to tear apart. Peter was afraid of Jesus who could even see under the water, so he bowed down in front of Jesus.

7

Jesus said to Peter. ¡°Don¡¯t be afraid. From now on you will become a fisherman who catches man.¡± From that time on, Peter gave up everything and became a disciple of Jesus.

8

There was a time when Jesus took his disciples to a place called Caesarea Philippi. In that place Jesus asked one question. ¡°Who do people say the Son of Man is?¡±

9

The disciples answered according to what they had heard. ¡°Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and some others even say that you are, Jeremiah.¡± The disciples spoke various opinions according to what they had heard.

10

Jesus asked the next question to the disciples. ¡±Then, who do you say I am?¡± At that moment, Peter answered,¡°You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.¡±

11

Upon hearingthe amazing confession of Peter Jesus replied,¡°Simon, son of Jonah, my Father in heaven has told it to you! As the meaning of your name is ¡®rock¡¯, I will build my church on this rock. The gates of Hades will not overcome it.¡± Peter had made a very good confession of faith.

12

However, even though Peter got such praise from Jesus, he also experienced great suffering. The night before Jesus died on the cross for our sins; Jesus was captured by the soldiers and was questioned at the house of the high priests. During that time, Peter had snuck into that place.

13

However, when some people noticed Peter and told him that he was a disciple of Jesus, Peter then said that he did not know Jesus. He said this even three times. Moreover, he made a hugewrongdoing of cursing Jesus.

14

However, after Jesus rose from the dead, he forgave Peter. Then, made Peter into a great Apostle that told the gospel to many people. Peter received Jesus¡¯ great love by being forgivenand from that day on, Peter pledged to live a life of telling the gospel of Jesus no matter what.

15

Peter got the Holy Spirit that came on the day of Pentecost and became a completely different person. He bravely told the people that Jesus is our true Christ and that he is the true Messiah. ¡°Repent of your sins. Each one of you, receive the baptism in the name of Jesus. Then, your sins will be forgiven and you will be saved.¡±

16

The people who heard Peter¡¯s sermon received the baptism of repentance in that place. On that day, another amazing event happened. Three thousand people believed in Jesus and returned to God. The early churches started from that time.

17

Peter was a fisherman that caught fish in Galilee but Jesus called him and made him to become a great man of God. Jesus made Peter into someone very precious. Just like this, the power of God makes any person precious and a great person of God. We have to believe that God has the power to make us into great people of God no matter how we started out. Believe this power of God and we shall not loose courage in any situation.
