Assemble all Israel at Mizpah

[1
Samuel 7:3]
And
Samuel said to the whole house of Israel, "If you are returning to the
LORD
with
all your hearts, then rid yourselves of the foreign gods and the Ashtoreths
and
commit yourselves to the LORD and serve him only,
and
he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines."
|

|
|
Eli
the priest died, and after that Samuel became the high priest.
At
that time Israel did not serve God properly but worshiped idols.
And
they were very afraid of Philistia, a neighboring nation that threatened
Israel.
|
4
|
|
Samuel
called all the tribes to restore Israel. And he told them.
¡°If
you truly want to return to God, you must destroy the foreign gods and the
Ashtoreth,
and
God will save us from the hand of the Philistines when you will only serve
God.¡±
|
5
|
|
The
people who heard the words of Samuel, the high priest, decided to obey the
words.
They
have destroyed the Baal and Ashtoreth idols they were serving.
They
really decided to serve God alone.
|
6
|
|
Samuel,
who saw this, told the Israelites.
¡°Assemble
all Israel at Mizpah, and I will intercede with the Lord for you.¡±
The
Israelites who gathered at Mizpah offered God a prayer of repentance.
They
prayed. ¡°We have sinned against Jehovah.¡±
on
that day they did not eat anything and fasted to repent of God.
|

|
|
When
the Israelites heard that they had gathered at Mizpah,
the
Philistines came up to attack them.
The
people of Israel heard the news that the Philistines were coming to attack,
and
they were afraid and told the priest Samuel.
¡°
Do not stop praying to Jehovah for us. Ask God to rescue us from the
Philistines.¡±
|

|
|
Samuel
offered the Lamb to God as a burnt offering.
And
he prayed earnestly to Jehovah for Israel.
While
Samuel was praying with sacrifices to God,
the
Philistines were coming up to attack Israel.
|
9
|
|
God
listened to Samuel's earnest prayer and gave a great thunder to the
Philistines.
The
Philistines were startled by the surprise of God's thunder.
They
did not miss the embarrassment, and the Israelites attacked them and defeated
them.

|
|
God
saved Israel who repented of their mistakes at Mizpah.
It
is very important to truly repent of God.
In
1907 there was a great repentance movement in Korea like the people of
Israel.
|
11
|
|
In
the 1900s, Joseon did not differ from the fallen Israel.
There
are many people who believe in God and believe in Jesus,
but
still follow the habits of superstition and other religions.
They
did not live according to the Bible, but they committed all kinds of sins.
|
12
|
|
Hardy
missionaries and a few missionaries who were doing missionary work
in
these Korea dynasties found that they had a wrong mind in treating
themselves.
There
was a pride in their minds that they regarded as superior to the Korea
people.
They
realized their sin and their lack of faith and sincerely repented in front of
the people.
|
13
|
|
In
1903, true repentance began to take place in believers
who
were moved by the repentance of Hardy's missionaries.
This
repentance movement has continued for several years
and
has begun to spread throughout the country.
The
people who stole the money repented and gave back the money, and the nobles
who
ignored the lower classes came to repentance, promising to treat the lower
classes
as brothers and sisters according to the Bible.
|

|
|
In
January 1907, a large rally was held at the Jang Dae-Hyun Church in
Pyongyang.
On
that day, Pastor Gil Sun-joo, who stood on the pulpit as a preacher,
publicly
repented of his sin, which had been touched by the Holy Spirit and stole
money
left
by his dead friend. Through the public repentance of Pastor Gil Sun-joo, the
Holy Spirit came to the place.
|
15
|
|
After
the repentance of Pastor Gil Sun-joo, where the Holy Spirit came, many
people,
from
those who confess to murder to those who steal,
have
confessed their sins and prayed for repentance to God.
The
believers gathered there confessed not only great sins but also small sins,
and
repented and begged forgiveness to God.
|
16
|
|
This
repentance movement in Pyongyang spread throughout the country.
This
repentance movement is called the Great Pyongyang Movement in 1907.
From
that time on, many people believed in Jesus began to grow.
The
lives of believers in Jesus have been completely changed.
As
they saw their changed image, the number of people who believed
in
Jesus increased and the church was revived.
|
17
|
|
A
long time ago, a great salvation to the people of Israel gathered at Mizpah
and
a remarkable revival in 1907 to the Korean people began as a true repentance
before God.
When
we realize our sins in the sight of God and ask for forgiveness to turn away
from
our sins, God has mercy on us and forgives us through Jesus Christ and the
Holy Spirit.
Before
God, we should always be ourselves, checking ourselves and turning around
so
that we can always go the right path of faith.
