Friendly Rich Boas

[Ruth 2:8-9]
So
Boaz said to Ruth, "My daughter, listen to me. Don't go and glean in
another field
and
don't go away from here. Stay here with my servant girls.
Watch
the field where the men are harvesting, and follow along after the girls.
I
have told the men not to touch you. And whenever you are thirsty,
go
and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled."

Ruth, a Moabite woman, came to
Bethlehem following Naomi, her mother-in-law,
to become a people of God. Ruth was
very kind to Naomi.
Such behavior of Ruth was well known
to those living in the area.

|
|
One day when it was time to harvest
the grain, Ruth told Naomi.
¡°Please let me go into the field. If
you have ever met a friendly person,
I will glean grains that fall on the
field.¡± Naomi allowed her to do so.
|

|
Ruth went out into the field and
followed the workers in one field and gleaned.
But, incidentally, the field that Ruth
had gone for the gleaning was the field of Boaz,
the son of the Elimelech family, whose
husband Naomi was.
|

|
|
On that day Boaz, the owner of the
field, came to Bethlehem and came to the field.
Boas blessed and greeted the workers.
The workers also replied,
¡°May the Lord bless you, Master.¡± Boas
was a wonderful master who honored the workers.
|

|
|
Boaz
found Ruth in his field and asked the supervisor.
¡°Who
is that woman?¡±
¡°She is a Moabite woman from Moab with
Naomi. The woman asked me to go
after the workers in the morning and
allow me to pick up the glean.
She has been gleaning until now,
except for a while in the cabin.¡±

|
When
Boaz heard this, he said to Ruth,
¡°Do not go to another field for
gleaning. Follow my workers only.
Look closely at the fields they are
going to follow. I told my workers not to bother you.
If thirsty, go to the water jars and
let the workers drink the water that has been lonely.¡±
|

|
|
Ruth
was so grateful for the kindness of Boaz, she bowed her face to the ground.
¡°I am a stranger, how can you do this
kind of grace to someone like me?¡±
|
10
|
|
Boaz
told Ruth.
¡°I heard what you did to your
mother-in-law after your husband died.
And I know that you have come to this
kingdom with your husband 's parents,
who have left your country and have no
one to know.
Now, because you have come to the
LORD, the Lord God of Israel will pay you back.¡±
|

|
|
Boaz's
kindness did not end here. Boaz allowed Ruth to eat with them.
¡°Please take this bread on this
delicious honey.¡±
Boaz gave enough roasted grain to Ruth
to eat.
|
12
|
|
After
eating, Ruth awoke to glean, and Boaz told the workers.
¡°Please let her pick her ears among
the barley.
And you will drop her grains a little
from the barley, so that she can pick you up.¡±
|

|
|
With the kindness of Boaz, Ruth was
able to glean from the field all day long.
On that day, the grains picked by Ruth
were about an ephah. This is about 30L.
|
14
|
|
Boas allowed Lot to work alongside his
workers on the other day.
Boaz also allowed her to come till the
end of the harvest.
Ruth returned home and told Naomi what
had happened in the field of Boaz.
|
15
|
|
Naomi, who heard Ruth's words, could
feel that God was taking care of them.
Because Boaz was a relative of his
husband Elimelech,
she had the hope that he could buy and
return her land according to the law of Israel.
|
16
|
|
Ruth came to the land of Judah along
with her mother-in-law, Naomi,
because she wanted to be a people of
God.
God remembered Ruth's precious heart
and led the footsteps of Ruth into the field of Boaz. And she was able to
meet Boas, who came to see the field, to receive grace.
|
17
|
|
God always cares for and guides His
people.
God, who leads Ruth, guides us equally
as children of God.
We must always strive to be people of
faith who always remember this grace and thank God.
