Job and the Children Offered to God
|
2
|
|
[Job
1:5]
When
a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them
purified. Early
in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them,
thinking, "Perhaps
my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This
was Job's regular custom.
|
3
|
|
In
the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job.
Job in the Bible: This man was
blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. (Job 1:1)
|
4
|
|
God
made Job a very rich man. His house was full of cattle.
And
a lot of people worked in the house.
He was the richest man in the country.
|
5
|
|
Job also had ten children. There were
seven sons and three daughters.
|
6
|
|
The
Bible records the birthday tradition that was in Job's home.
When
some of his children are on his birthday, he prepares a big feast.
He invites all his brothers and
sisters to his home.
|
7
|
|
Ten
children are all gathered on a birthday party to bless those who have had
birthdays, and to have a good time eating and drinking
together.
|
8
|
|
Even
though another brother had a birthday, they had the same gathering and had a
feast.
But
his father, Job, had a worrying mind every time his children had a birthday
party.
He was worried whether the children
would fall into a birthday party and sin against God.
|
9
|
|
So
he always called his house after his children's birthday party was over.
And
he commanded his children to clean their bodies and minds.
All the children of Job cleaned their
bodies and minds according to the words of their father.
|
10
|
|
Then
they wake up early the next morning and go to offer sacrifices along with his
father Job.
Job prepared a sacrifice according to
the number of his children and gave him a burnt offer.
|
11
|
|
Job
offered sacrifices in the same way every time his children had a birthday
party.
Ten
of their children also celebrated with their father, and when they had a
birthday party, they could see that they had not
sinned against God, and if they had sinned, they could repent and be cleansed.
|
12
|
|
Job
was a faithful father of faith who did not want his children to be separated
from God.
As a father who feared God, Job
desired that all the lives of his children would be worthy of God.
|
13
|
|
Job's
children were able to worship God rightly according to the Father of such
faith.
Based on the faith of the Father who
feared God, Job's children deserved to come to God and worshiped God.
|
14
|
|
However,
the Bible also records those who have not inherited the good faith of the
Father.
Including the sons of Samuel, the
great judges of Israel.
Their names were Joel and Abijah.
|
15
|
|
The
Bible records the actions of these two sons:
¡°But
his sons did not follow his ways. They
turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted
justice.¡±(1Sm 8:3)
The sons of Samuel did not follow the
path of faith that Samuel their father had followed.
|
16
|
|
Today
on Parental Day, Children who are living their faith through their parents should
be able to thank God greatly.
Because
you have received the precious promise(Covenant)
God has given you through your parents
who believe in Jesus.
|
17
|
|
Also,
if there are children here who worship in this place even though their
parents do
not live a religious life, you also should give a big thanks to God.
How
long have you loved God that He has called you to the Church,
regardless
of the faith of your parents?
We hope that all the children who
praise God for praising God's grace for all of us today.
