Lessons from the ten minas parable
|
2
|
|
[Luke
19:16-17]
"The
first one came and said, 'Sir, your mina has earned ten more.'
"'Well
done, my good servant!' his master replied.
'Because
you have been trustworthy in a very small matter, take charge of ten cities.'

Jesus
told many things through parables about what will happen in the future.
Today we are talking about what kind
of attitude we should live in believing in Jesus.
|
4
|
|
The
nobles who lived in a certain area came to a distant country to receive the
throne.
He gathered all his servants to tell
his servants what to do until he received the throne.
|
5
|
|
He
gave to each of the ten servants a total of ten minas, one by one, and said,
"From
now on, you shall have a mina of merchandise for a mina
until
I come back from the throne."
One mina was a large amount of
workmen's salary for three months at that time.
|
6
|
|
Some
of those servants hated this nobleman.
They
sent a man to a man who would give his throne without their master knowing that they did not want this nobleman
to become king.
|
7
|
|
However,
unlike their wishes, the nobility was to receive the throne.
The
nobleman who came back as a king recalled his servants.
The king told the servants to report
to him how they did business.
|
8
|
|
The
first servant told the king.
"Master, I have worked hard with
a mina you gave me.
I made ten minas with one mina my
master gave me."
|
9
|
|
The
king greatly praised the servant,
"Good!
Good boy, you have been faithful to a very small work,
and
I will entrust you to ten villages."
This servant received a great reward
to rule over ten cities.
|
10
|
|
The
second servant came out and said.
"I
did business with one mina of my master, and made five minas."
The king was very pleased. "I
will give you five towns."
The second servant became a ruler of
five villages.
|
11
|
|
The
third servant also came out and said.
"Master,
look at your master's money. I wrapped it in a towel and stored it well.
I
was afraid of you, because you are a hard man.
You take out what you did not put in
and reap what you did not sow."
|
12
|
|
The
master told the third lazy servant who did not obey his command.
"If you really knew me like that,
it would have been right to save the money in the bank and get the interest.
Take away a mina he has, and give it to a man of ten minas."
|
13
|
|
"I
tell you. He who is loyal to me will receive more,
and
he who is not loyal will take away what he has."
The third servant took away even a
mina of his own.
|
14
|
|
And
the king gave a very terrible command.
"Take
those evil enemies who are against me as kings, and kill them before
me."
The evil people who opposed the
master's being king were killed.
|
15
|
|
Today, the King in this story is
Jesus.
Jesus, who died on the cross for us,
was resurrected and went to heaven.
This is like the owner went to a
distant country.
|
16
|
|
We
are like the servants of ten, those who received the command of Jesus to come
as king.
Jesus,
who gave us new life, told us to go to heaven and preach the gospel to
others.
[Go therefore and make disciples of
all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.]
|
17
|
|
When
Jesus comes again on this earth as king of judgment, we must stand before
Him.
We
must act in the right way as Jesus commanded, like ten minas and five minas.
We
must do our best to be the fruit of the gospel.
We must listen to the gospel and try
to make many people
become children of God through me.
