Give thanks to Jehovah

[Psalm
136:1]
Give
thanks to the LORD, for he is good. His love endures forever.

Psalms
are scriptures that express God's greatness in poetry and hymn.
Today
we will see the contents of Psalm 136, one of the psalms. In this psalm,
it is written 4 times to thank the
Lord.
|
4
|
|
This
Psalm 136 is a poem to thank God and praise God for what great things
God has done for the people of Israel.
|
5
|
|
This
psalm first praises Israel's "Jehovah" as the only true God.
'Jehovah' is the only God.
'Jehovah' is the one who existed
before the world existed.
|
6
|
|
All
the gods made by human hands are false gods.
God
has given us a faith that only God is a true God.
We, as children of God, must be
grateful only because God is the only true God.
|
7
|
|
Second,
this psalm is thanks and praised
because
the only God is the great God who created the heavens and the earth.
In the beginning God created the world
with the word of power in the midst of nothing.
|
8
|
|
God
created the light by the Word and laid the ground in the water.
He
also created the sun, the moon, and the stars, to rule day and night.
And he made plants and animals, and
created man to make this world exist.
|
9
|
|
Not
only has God created the whole world, but He has been running the whole
universe so far.
We
are enjoying all the things God created for us every day.
It is our duty to give thanks and
praise to the Creator God for the grace of God.
|
10
|
|
Third,
Psalm 136 gives thanks and praises to God who saved the Israelites
who
slaughtered in the land of Egypt.
God
destroyed the proud Pharaoh by killing the first things of Egypt.
And He saved the Israelites from death
by crossing the Red Sea.
|
11
|
|
Just
as God saved Israel from Egypt, we also rescued him from sin and death.
Without
God's grace, we must receive eternal punishment for sin.
But God sent Jesus to this earth and
saved us.
Do not forget this grace of salvation
and live in thanksgiving.
|
12
|
|
God
also led the Israelites across the Red Sea into the wilderness.
He
protected them with pillar of clouds and pillars of fire.
God made them safe in all the
difficulties that arise in the wilderness.
|
13
|
|
In
the wilderness, God protected Israel from their enemies.
He was able to be stronger and
stronger than the Israelites.
God helped Israel against their
enemies.
|
14
|
|
Fourth,
Psalm 136 remembers giving thanks and praise
to
God's promise to enter the land of Canaan.
God
helped a small nation, Israel, to overcome the mighty kings of the land of
Canaan.
The people of Israel came to occupy
the land of Canaan as God had promised.
|
15
|
|
God
chose the small and weak nation of Israel as his people and led them
to
the Promised Land.
God
has given us today the gospel of Jesus to make us a child of God
and to live in eternal heaven better
than the land of Canaan.
|
16
|
|
Let
us thank God the Father, the Creator of the whole universe,
who
is incomparable to any god in this world.
Let
us give thanks to the Son, Jesus,
who
has given us our life and saved us and made us children of God.
Let us also thank the Holy Spirit God
who accompanies me
all my life and guides my way safely.
|
17
|
|
In
particular, today is a day to celebrate Thanksgiving Sunday.
Let
us remember and thank God for the grace of salvation that
He
has given me for the last time.
To
this day, let us look back on the grace of God who protect and guid us,
and
let us read together the last words of Psalm 136.
"Give
thanks to the God of heaven. His love endures forever." (Ps 136:26)
