Hezekiah restored the temple
|
2
|
|
[2
Chronicles 29:35]
There
were burnt offerings in abundance,
together
with the fat of the fellowship offerings and the drink offerings
that
accompanied the burnt offerings.
So
the service of the temple of the LORD was reestablished.

Ahaz,
the twelfth king of Judah, did evil in the sight of God.
He
served idols of various nations, not God.
He even gave his son to the Molech of
fire in the valley of Hinnom.
|
4
|
|
This
evil is not enough, and Ahaz treats the temple of God with disgust,
breaks
down temple accessories, and even closes the door to the temple.
The
wrath of God caused Judah,
ruler
of King Ahaz, to be constantly harassed by the surrounding nations.
Ahaz lived in this miserable situation
and died.
|
5
|
|
After
Ahaz died, his son Hezekiah was on his throne.
King
Hezekiah decided that, unlike his father Ahaz,
he
would not go to an evil way of betraying God.
Hezekiah wanted to be a king to serve
God rightly.
|
6
|
|
King
Hezekiah wanted to be the first to clean up the neglected temple of God.
King
Hezekiah summoned the priests and the Levites in charge of the temple,
and told them to get rid of all the
abominable things that defiled the temple.
|
7
|
|
The
Levites who heard the king's words first cleansed themselves.
The
priests went into the temple, took all the abominations
that defiled the
temple, and
moved it into the temple courts.
Then the Levites went to the valley of
Kidron with the abominations.
|
8
|
|
God's
temple has gradually regained its original form.
The
burnt offering and the vessels were in place.
The vessels that should be placed in
the sanctuary were also placed
where they should be.
|
9
|
|
King
Hezekiah heard the news that the temple was clean,
and
he gathered leaders early in the morning.
The
leaders who were commanded by the king gathered in the temple.
They sacrificed a sin offering to
cleanse the sins of Judah
and cleanse the temple.
|
10
|
|
The
priests of the house of Aaron offered sacrifices for their forgiveness
with
their sacrifices.
The priests took the animals according
to God's command
and sprinkled their blood on the
altar.
|
11
|
|
The
priests brought the male goats before the king and the people gathered there.
The
king and his people laid their hands on the head of the goat.
This is the ordinance of transferring
their sins to the goat.
|
12
|
|
Then
the priests killed the goats.
And he sprinkled the blood on the
altar,
so that Israel would be forgiven of the sins of God.
|
13
|
|
Later,
King Hezekiah told the Levites to play cymbals, harps and lyres.
The Levites obeyed the king's words
and held up David's instruments.
The priests stood with their trumpets.
This was the command of the Lord long
ago through King David
and the prophets of Nathan.
|
14
|
|
As
the priests began to offer burnt offerings on the altar,
the
Levites who had caught the instrument began to praise the LORD God.
They
praised God by blowing their trumpets and playing harps and lyres.
All the people worshiped the Lord God
until the burnt offering was finished.
|
15
|
|
Hezekiah
proclaimed to all the people,
"Now you have become people who are devoted to God.
Now,
come to this temple and give thanks to the LORD."
So
the people sacrificed to God with all their sincerity.
King Hezekiah and the people rejoiced
greatly on that day.
|
16
|
|
As
king of Judah under God's rule,
Hezekiah did what he ought to do for the
glory of God.
He
cleansed the temple of the defiled God,
and
in that temple the people of Judah again worshiped God.
All these things God had prepared for
the people of Judah.
|
17
|
|
Worshiping
God is the most important thing a covenant people should do.
If
one is downplaying worship by claiming to believe in God,
We
must know that it is evil that defiles the temple.
We
must remember that today we too are God's people
who
made a covenant with God in the blood of Jesus.
To
us, who became children of God by faith in Jesus,
The important thing is to
worship.
I
hope that you will always go to the place of worship with gratitude to God
and know that you will worship God with all
your heart.
