Abram went to Canaan by faith
2
[Genesis
12:4]
So
Abram left, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him.
Abram
was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran.
3
The first name of Abraham, the father
of faith, was Abram.
Abram is home to ¡®Ur¡¯, the land of the
Chaldeans.
4
Abram's father was Terah. And the
brothers are Haran and Nahor.
Haran died before his father, Terah.
5
Abram married his half-sister, Sarai.
At that time, Abram was married to
Sarai because people were able to marry even relative. They wanted a child,
but they did not have children different from their wishes.
6
One day when they moved to Haran, God
appeared to Abram. And he said:
7
The Lord had said to Abram,
"Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to
the land I will show you. "
I will make you into a great nation and I
will bless you;
I will make your name great, and you
will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." (Gn 12:1~3)

Upon hearing the word of God, Abram
decided to obey his word.
Abram did not know how to go about the
land that God spoke,
but he believed in God and decided to
leave his hometown and go there.
9
Abram told his wife Sarai and his
nephew Lot of God's word and prepared to leave. Lot was the son of Haran, the brother
of Abram, who died.
10
After he had sorted out all his
possessions, Abram went out with all his servants.
Abram did not know exactly where to
go, but he was dependent on God and was leaving.
11
When Abram left Haran and set off into
Canaan, he was 75 years old.
God has led the path of the Abram
party.
12
Through the guidance of God, Abram
arrived safely in the area called 'Shechem'
in the land of Canaan. Abram's place
was a large oak tree, where the Canaanites already lived.
13
There God appeared again to Abram. And
he said to Abram, God promised,
"I will give this land to your
offspring."
14
Abram built an altar with thanksgiving
in the place where God appeared.
God has safely led Abram to that
place.
15
Abram departed from Shechem and moved
to the mountain east of Bethel.
He built a tent there. He also built
an altar to God and worshiped there.
16
In
Abraham's obedience from Haran to Canaan, Hebrews says:
"By
faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive
as his
inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know
where he was
going."(Heb 11:8)
Abraham showed a great faith only in
God's dependence on Canaan.
17
Abram
was later called Abraham, the father of faith. A man of true faith is not one
who
counts and judges when he is commanded by God.
Like
Abram, he is a man who believes that God will lead.
I hope that those who have heard the
word today will be able to act in faith,
not hesitating in doing what pleases
God.
