Elisha
who became a prophet like a teacher
2
[2 Kings 2:15]
The company
of the prophets from Jericho, who were watching, said, ¡°The spirit of Elijah
is resting on Elisha.¡± And they went to meet him and bowed to the ground
before him.

God made an
important command to Elijah, one of the great prophets of Israel. ¡°Elisha the
son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah, you shall anoint to be prophet in your
place.¡± God told Elijah that he should build Elisha as a prophet.

The prophet
Elijah obeyed God's Word and visited Elisha. Elisha is plowing in a very
large field with 24 cows. Elisha was plowing the field with the last two cows
pulling the plow.
5
Elijah put
on his cloak in the sense of being a prophet instead of Elisha. Elisha
noticed why Elijah threw his clothes on him.
6
Elisha left
his cow and ran to Elijah and said, ¡°Please say goodbye to my father and
mother. Then I will follow the teacher.¡± Elijah allowed him to do so.
7
Elisha went
home and slaughtered two cows. And they burned the yoke of the oxen, and made
meat dishes. And he let people eat the meat. He did this from now on, meaning
to leave the work of farming and follow the will of God.
8
On that day
Elisha became a disciple of Elijah and followed Elijah. In order to become a
prophet after Elijah, he learned and prepared hard.
9
Finally, it
is time for God to call Elijah, the teacher of Elisha, into the kingdom of
heaven. Soon Elijah will be called by God and set out to the place God has
ordained. Elisha was the only person who went along with it.

Elijah went
a long way from Gilgal to the Jordan River. Elisha did not leave his teacher,
Elijah, until the end. Elijah told him to go back many times, but Elisha did
not give up and went to the end.
11
The two men
arrived together on the Jordan River. Elijah rolled his cloak down the water
of the Jordan. The waters of the Jordan split over and over, and they crossed
over to the dry land in the middle of the river.
12
Elijah
asked his disciples Elisha. ¡°Ask for what you want before God brings me¡±
Elisha
answered, ¡°Give me twice as much power as you have.¡± Elisha wanted to be
valued by God like a teacher, Elijah the prophet.
13
Elijah said
to Elisha, ¡°If you see God taking me, that will happen.¡± When two people were
walking in a conversation, suddenly fire wagons and fire horses came down
from the sky and separated them from each other. And a whirlwind came and
took Elijah to heaven.
14
God has
lifted up the living Elijah into heaven. Elisha picked up the cloak that the
prophet Elijah had climbed on the whirlwind. He came back to the Jordan River
with his cloak.
15
Elisha
struck down the Jordan as hard as Elijah did. At that time, there was a
miracle that the water of the Jordan was divided into two sides. Now the
great power of Elijah, the Spirit of God, came to Elisha.
16
God gave
great power to Elisha who wanted to receive twice as much power as Elijah
had. Elisha followed Elijah as a teacher, teaching many people the word of
God, helping the hardest, and being valued for the kingdom of God.

God has
given us the teachers of precious faith like Elijah. It is those who teach us
the Word. We must strive to live up to their teachings and to follow their
teachings like Elisha. And when you become an adult, you must learn hard so
that you can continue teaching the Words to the next generation.
