The Holy Spirit who fulfilled the prophecy
of the Old Testament
|
2
|
|
[Joel 2:28-29]
And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on
all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream
dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and
women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.

Jesus
ascended to heaven 40 days after his resurrection.
The
disciples stayed in Jerusalem as Jesus commanded them. And the disciples and
120 believers prayed earnestly in the promise of Jesus that He would send the
Holy Spirit.

On the
tenth day after they prayed together, Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a
violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house. They saw what
seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
God the Holy Spirit has come!

It was
Judea's "Pentecost." Amazing things happened to those who had the
Holy Spirit.
They boldly
began to testify of Jesus. Even when they spoke in different languages,
miracles ensued that people there could hear and understand other languages.

Peter,
filled with the Holy Spirit, told the people that Jesus was the true Messiah.
Those who heard Peter say there repent and repent of their sins. On that day,
a miracle happened when 3,000 people received Jesus.

On
Pentecost, the Holy Spirit God has come to this earth to prove that the Bible
is true.
The Old
Testament contains the prophecy of the coming of the Holy Spirit of
Pentecost. According to God's will, the prophets of the Old Testament
preached and proclaimed the coming of the Holy Spirit.

The prophet
Isaiah, who foretold that Jesus would come through the virgin body on this
earth, prophesied that the Holy Spirit would come to this land.
¡°till the
Spirit is poured on us from on high, and the desert becomes a fertile field,
and the fertile field seems like a forest.¡±(Is 32:15)

|
|
The
prophecy of the prophet Isaiah was fulfilled. At Pentecost, from the heavens,
the Holy Spirit came to the believers who gathered there. And because of
those who received the Holy Spirit, the gospel became preached throughout the
world beyond Israel.

|
There was
another prophet named Joel. When the prophet Joel lived, the people of Judah
did not serve God properly. They worshiped idols and kept God away.
|

|
|
God is full
of love, but those who sin and do not repent are surely the righteous one to
punish. Judas, who was guilty of "idolatry" which God hated most,
was put under God's great wrath.
|

|
|
Through the
prophet Joel, God gave them the opportunity to repent and return to God.
Joel
preached the word of God to repent and return.
¡º¡°Even now,¡± declares the
Lord, ¡°return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and
mourning.¡± Rend your heart and not your garments. Return to the Lord your
God, for he is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in
love, and he relents from sending calamity.¡»(Jl 2:12~13)
|
13
|
|
The prophet
Joel also proclaimed God's promise to the repentant and returning people. God
has promised to defeat the enemies who torment them and keep them from being
abusive. He promised to give the necessary things to overflow and make God
visible only to God in front of the other countries people of the world.
|
14
|
|
The most
important promise was to give the Holy Spirit to God's people. Let us read
together the words that Joel proclaimed.
¡º¡°And afterward, I will pour
out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old
men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants,
both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.¡»(Jl
2:28~29)

The Holy
Spirit came upon this earth at Pentecost as God promised to send through the
prophet Joel. The Holy Spirit came upon all men. The Holy Spirit did not
discriminate against a child, an adult, an old man and a young man, and
neither the rich nor the poor, but came as a gift to all who were called to
be children of God.
|
16
|
|
The Holy
Spirit who came to Pentecost made the people who believe in Jesus to be one
and made it a 'church'. And from the first day of the first coming, to the
present day, he is working to help the children of God to understand the Word
and to live according to His Word.

|
The Holy
Spirit helps us pray properly when we pray to God. We, as children of God who
believe in Jesus, are never alone. Because the Holy Spirit is always with us.
When we rely on the Holy Spirit in the Word, we can understand and live the
will of God.
I hope you
will remember these things and do what you have been doing from this day, to
be people of faith who believe that the Holy Spirit is with you all the time
and walk and live according to the Word.
