God fulfilled his promise through Joash

2

[ 2 Kings 11:20-21 ]

and all the people of the land rejoiced. And the city was quiet, because Athaliah had been slain with the sword at the palace. Joash was seven years old when he began to reign.

3

God raised ¡°David¡± from a shepherd to be king of Israel. He also made a special promise to David. The promise was that not only David but also David's descendants would be kings.

4

This promise has been fulfilled. Following David, 'Solomon' became king. Solomon was allowed to build the temple of God and built the temple beautifully.

5

Following Solomon, Rehoboam became king. During King Rehoboam, Israel was divided into two countries: southern Judah and northern Israel. The throne of Judah in the south was carried on by David's descendants.

6

Despite the difficulties of dividing the nation, God's promises were kept exactly.

(Rehoboam-> Abijah-> Asa-> Jehoshaphat-> Joram)

King Jehoshaphat's son, King ¡®Joram¡¯, married ¡®Athaliah¡¯, the daughter of King Ahab of North Israel.

7

¡°Ahaziah¡± was born between Joram and Athaliah. Ahaziah succeeded his father Joram as king of South Judah. But Ahaziah went to North Israel and suddenly got killed.

8

After her son Ahaziah died, Athaliah made a terrifying plan to become a queen. She succeeded Ahaziah and killed all those who deserved to be kings. Athaliah committed an act of murdering even her grandson, to remove all the seeds of the Davidic dynasty.

9

And Athaliah became the queen. Satan, using Athaliah's greed, was trying to cut off the ¡°David Dynasty¡± that God had promised for Israel. People thought that the Davidic dynasty was cut off and God's promises failed.

10

However, in the midst of Athaliah's wickedness, God left a member of the family of David. When Athaliah killed all the princes, King Ahaziah's sister, Jehosheba, saved the baby, Prince Joash, by hiding it in the bedroom.

11

Jehosheba's husband was Jehoiada, the then high priest. Jehoiada raised and saved Joash, who saved life from the atrocities of Athaliah, in the temple. For six years, Joash was hiding in the temple without anyone knowing.

12

In the seventh year of Joash's hiding, Jehoiada began work to make Joash king. The centurions were brought to Jehovah's temple to covenant to be loyal to God's right will. And Jehoiada showed them Prince Joash.

13

Centurions kept Jehoiada's command and kept the temple like an iron barrel. On the spot, Jehoiada crowned the head of Joash, the son of David, and gave him a book of the law. Finally, the high priest Jehoiada anointed on the head of Joash, and the guards and the people gathered there rejoiced for the king's throne.

14

This sound was also heard by the evil queen Athaliah. Athaliah rushed to the temple. Athaliah saw with her own eyes the king of Joash in the center, the trumpets blowing the trumpets, and the people rejoicing.

15

Athaliah ripped out her clothes and cried out loud. "It's treason, it's treason." Jehoiada commanded that the evil Athaliah, who had acted as king against God's will, be brought out of the temple and killed. On that day, Athaliah was killed on a horse-only road in the royal palace.

16

Jehoiada the priest made a covenant between King Joash and the people; Judah was restored to a nation that served God. All the people destroyed the temple that served the idol of Baal and killed all the priests.

17

Joash, a descendant of David, was founded as king of South Judah at the age of seven. Everyone saw God keep his promises through Joash. God overthrew Satan's plan to try to break God's promises with Athaliah ahead. And until Jesus came through the family of David, his promises were kept completely.
