Only the Samaritan gave
thanks

Bible verse : Luke 17:15-17 (NIV)
One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a
loud voice.
He threw himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him--and he was a Samaritan.
Jesus asked, "Were not all ten cleansed?
Where are the other nine?

When
Jesus was on this earth, he healed the sickness of many people.
Wherever Jesus went, there were always people asking him to heal their sickness.
Jesus had compassion on the sick and healed them.
|

|
|
Jesus
was going to Jerusalem with his disciples. On their way they passed between
Samaria and Galilee. As Jesus entered a village, he heard someone urgently
calling him from afar.
|
5
|
|
The
people who shouted at Jesus were people with leprosy (Hansen's disease).
In Israel, people with leprosy could not live with their families.
They had no choice but to go outside the city to avoid people and live
separately.
|
6
|
|
Outside
the city there was a place where these lepers lived. They used cloth to cover
the sores on their bodies. They were mainly active at night because they had
to stay out of sight.
|
7
|
|
There were 10 people who shouted
at Jesus. They shouted at Jesus with one voice. ¡°Jesus Master! Have mercy on
us.¡° Jesus heard them and went to them.
|
8
|
|
Jesus said to them, ¡°Go and show
yourselves to the priest.¡± In Israel, a person with leprosy was considered
unclean and could not live with healthy people.
So, when the disease was cured, he had to go to the priest and show it to the
priest, and he had to be judged that he was cured, so that he could live with
people.

|
|
Hearing
Jesus' words, the ten lepers obeyed Jesus' words. They believed Jesus' words
and set out to present themselves to the priest. But on the way, an amazing
miracle happened. Changes began to occur in their bodies.
|
10
|
|
They
carefully removed the cloth from their hands and body.
Then, the disease disappeared and clean flesh appeared. It was confirmed that
all ten people were completely healed. All of them who obeyed the word of
Jesus experienced the miracle of being healed of leprosy.
|
11
|
|
They
ran to show the priest that they were healed.
They ran away with the joy of being with their families again.
However, only one in 10 ran in a different direction than the 9.
|

|
|
The
man who returned to the way he came came and fell at Jesus' feet.
And he thanked Jesus for healing his body. This man who fell at Jesus' feet
was a Samaritan, whom the Jews looked down upon.
|
13
|
|
Jesus asked the Samaritan. ¡°Were
not all ten cleansed? But where is the nine?
Has no one returned to give glory to God except this stranger?¡±
Ten lepers recovered, but there was only one stranger who gave thanks to
Jesus and gave glory to God.
|
14
|
|
Jesus
said to a person who thanked Jesus for healing his illness.
¡°Get up and go, your faith has healed you.¡± Jesus greatly praised the man's
faith.
The Samaritan, who had come to give thanks, returned with great praise from
Jesus.

This
Samaritan remembered and gave thanks for the grace Jesus had given him. Those
who have received the grace of salvation by believing in Jesus and become
children of God must do the same.
The book of Colossians tells us how to live a life of gratitude.
[And whatever you do, whether in word
or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the
Father through him. (Colossians 3:17)]
|
16
|
|
The
Thessalonian Bible also tells us exactly what we must do after receiving the
grace of salvation from God.
[give thanks in all circumstances, for
this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus.
(1 Thessalonians 5:18)]
People of God who have been saved must do what God wants them to do.
The Bible says that the most important of these is a life of gratitude.

Are
you a person who is good at giving thanks like the Samaritan?
Or are you a person who does not know how to give thanks even after receiving
grace like the nine people? Starting today, I hope that you will take a good
look at the grace of God bestowed on you and train yourself to give thanks
every time. Please remember and give thanks for the grace that God has
bestowed on you until today. Those who live a life of gratitude to God will
be honored by God and help them live a successful life.
