God Stopped Building the Tower of Babel
|

Bible verse : Genesis
11:7-8 (NIV)
Come, let us go down and confuse their language
so they will not understand each other."
So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building
the city.

Beginning with the
first humans, Adam and Eve, people began to appear in this world. At that
time, people lived more than 900 years and had children.
As the number of people increased, so did the number of people who did things
that God hates..
|

|
|
When a man named Noah lived, no
one served God except Noah's family.
Finally, the whole world is full of sin, and it has reached the point where
God's judgment cannot be avoided. God eventually sent judgment on them by
flood. Except for the 8 members of Noah's family who obeyed God's word,
everyone was judged by water and died.
|
5
|
|
A lot of time has passed since Noah's flood judgment. Noah's
three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth, brought many people to this world.
However, in that era, like the days of Noah, it was again filled with sins
that God hates.
|

|
|
A large group of people of that
era traveled eastward and found a great plain called Shinar. They wanted to
settle down and live in that great plain for a long time.
So they started researching a technology that could make a sturdy house.
|
7
|
|
The
technology was to make a brick shape with clay and bake it over a fire to
make it strong. In addition, a technology was introduced to use bitumen to
firmly hold the bricks together. They started building their houses using
bricks.
It quickly turned into a large city.
They also came to build walls around the city to protect their dwellings.
|
8
|
|
As they begin to use the brick
technique, they come up with amazing and big plans. ¡°Everyone, let¡¯s build a
tower that can reach the top of the heaven with this technology. So make our
marks behind how great we were.
And let¡¯s live together like this and never be separated.¡±

They came to have a arrogant
heart that wanted to raise their own name rather than raising the name of
God. They planned to do the exact opposite of God's command to scatter and
spread throughout the earth.
They wanted to show the world how great they had done.
|
10
|
|
They became one in mind to make a
name for themselves and built the tower with all their zeal. Their skills
were so great that as time passed, the tower was built very high. Their
hearts were filled with the arrogance of being able to build a tower that
could reach the sky.
|
11
|
|
God was angry with
them for building a tower with pride and evil hearts.
God came down to see the castle and tower they built.
And he decided to punish their wicked and proud hearts.
|
12
|
|
God said. "These people are one people, and they all speak
the same language.
So they started doing this, and this is just the beginning of what they are
going to do. They can do anything they want. So I came down to them.
Let's go and mix up their languages, so that they won't understand what
they're saying to each other."
|
13
|
|
God
decided to punish them so that they could no longer do things that resisted
God. God's punishment was that they spoke different languages.
The people who built the huge tower fell into great confusion when they could
not understand the language. They could not proceed with building the tower
any longer because they could not communicate with each other.
|
14
|
|
People began to gather
only among people who spoke the same language.
And one by one they started to scatter.
The plan to gather in one place and create their own big world did not go
ahead.
|
15
|
|
Their plan to build a tower reaching from the plains of Shinar to
heaven could not proceed any further because God prevented them from
communicating.
People call this tower they failed to build the Tower of Babel.
The word Babel was coined in the sense that God confused their language.
|
16
|
|
This Tower of Babel makes us realize how much God hates arrogant
hearts.
They believed in their skills and thought that everything was possible, but
when God stopped them, they couldn't do anything.
Also, they were scattered after receiving the severe punishment of not being
able to speak the same language for doing what God hates with their skills.
|
17
|
|
God never takes pleasure in those who use the powers given to
them arrogantly.
The ability God has given me must be used to exalt God.
Jesus, who came to this earth wearing a human body with great miraculous
power, set an example for us. Jesus used all of his powers to please God.
We must also imitate this Jesus.
We must be people of faith who properly use our good skills and abilities for
God. God exalts such a person and blesses him.
