King David Repented of His Sins
|

Bible verse : 2
Samuel 12:13-15 (NIV)
Then David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the LORD."
Nathan replied,
"The LORD has taken away your sin. You are not going to die.
But because by doing this you have made the enemies of the LORD show
utter contempt, the son born to you will die."
After Nathan had gone home, the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife had
borne to David, and he became ill.

David, recognized by
God, became the king of Israel. However, after he became king, David
committed a serious sin that he would regret for the rest of his life.
|

|
|
Among David¡¯s loyal servants,
there was a man named Uriah. While Uriah was away on the battlefield, David
committed the sin of bringing Uriah's wife to the palace and sleeping with
her. When David heard that Uriah's wife was pregnant, he thought of a clever
way to hide the incident.
|

|
|
David
sent a letter to Joab, the commander of the army, to cover up his sin.
The content of the letter was to send Uriah to the fiercest battlefield, then
have the soldiers retreat, isolate him, and let him die. Joab carried out
King David's orders and had Uriah killed. David did the evil thing of killing
Uriah to cover his own sin.

God knew about the evil things
David had done and sent the prophet Nathan to David. David greeted Prophet
Nathan very warmly.
¡°Welcome, Prophet. How did you get here?¡±
|
7
|
|
Prophet
Nathan told King David a story.
¡°There were two people in a castle. One was rich and the other was poor.¡±
|
8
|
|
The rich man had many sheep and
cattle. But the poor man had only one young ewe. The poor man fed the sheep
and raised it.
|
9
|
|
The sheep grew up with the poor
man's children. Sheep grew up sharing food and water with the poor. The poor
man loved the sheep so much that he slept with it and they always stayed
together.
The poor man treasured the sheep as if it were his own daughter.
|
10
|
|
But one day, a traveler came to
the rich man¡¯s house. The rich man wanted to serve food to the traveler. But
he didn't want to slaughter his sheep and cattle.
He wondered if there was any way to serve the guest without slaughtering his
own sheep and cattle.
|
11
|
|
The rich man did evil
things to avoid slaughtering his sheep and cattle.
He took a sheep from a poor man's house. The rich man slaughtered the sheep,
made food, and served it to the traveler. This is the end of Prophet Nathan's
story.
|
12
|
|
When David heard Prophet Nathan¡¯s story, he became very angry.
¡°I swear by the living God, The merciless rich man who did this will die, and
he will have to repay the poor man four times his sheep for doing such a bad
thing.¡±
|
13
|
|
After hearing David¡¯s words,
Prophet Nathan said to David.
¡°The king is just like the rich man. The king has many wives given to him by
God.
But the king took Uriah's wife and killed him.
God was very disappointed in the king, so he said that there would be someone
in your family who would die by the sword.¡±
God knew everything that David had done to Uriah in secret.
|

|
|
After hearing Prophet
Nathan¡¯s words, David immediately acknowledged his mistake in front of
Prophet Nathan. ¡°I have sinned against Jehovah.¡±
David realized how big a mistake he had made and with a sincere heart he
sincerely repented to God for his mistake and asked for forgiveness.
|
15
|
|
After seeing David repent, God spoke through prophet Nathan.
¡°God has forgiven you for your sins.¡± God forgave David's sins when he
repented of his mistakes with his sincere heart and restored his relationship
with David.
David shows in the psalms he wrote that he lived not only that day but also
throughout his life, regretting the sins he had committed before God.
[I am worn out from my groaning. All
night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears.
(Psalms 6:6)]
|

|
|
David truly committed a serious sin. However, when David was
pointed out about his sins, he showed his sincere repentance and faith.
God accepted David's repentance. We also commit many sins in our lives. Just
as God sent the prophet Nathan to David, He helps us realize our sins through
the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit convicts me of my sins,
I must repent of those sins like David and ask for forgiveness.
|
17
|
|
No matter how careful we are, we are weak people who cannot help
but sin.
A person who truly loves God is someone who, like David, asks for forgiveness
from God and people when the Holy Spirit convicts them of their sins.
And we must live by seeking the help of the Holy Spirit to avoid falling into
the same types of sin. The Holy Spirit will help us not to fall into sin.
Even if we have committed a sin, we must always strive to become people of
faith who can quickly restore our relationship with God by asking God for
forgiveness.
