The Bible is divided into the New
Testament and the Old Testament. Among these, the Old Testament records about
the Messiah who would come to this earth to forgive the sins of mankind. God
had various prophets prophesy about the Messiah who would come to this earth.
The Old Testament can be said to be a book that records the Messiah who would
come to this earth.

|
In
the Old Testament, God first said that the Messiah would come to this earth.
God said this in Genesis 3:15:
[And I will put enmity between you and
the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and
you will strike his heel.]
These words prophesied that the Messiah, who would come to this earth in the
future, would come to this earth through the body of a woman and that he
would defeat all the power of Satan.

|
|
The words ¡°you will strike his heel¡± mean that
Jesus, the Messiah, came to this earth and died on the cross. And Jesus was
victorious by ¡°crush Satan¡¯s head¡±
by resurrecting from his greatest weapon, death.

There
are also places in the Old Testament that symbolically show the Messiah who
will come to this earth. The Israelites were punished for complaining to God
in the wilderness and were dying from being attacked by fiery snakes in the
wilderness.
At that time, God revealed through Moses a special way for them to avoid
death.
|

|
|
God
asked him to make a snake shape out of copper and place it high on a pole. He
said that anyone who looks with faith at the on the pole will be healed. All
of those who believed in the word of God and saw the hanging on a pole with
faith experienced the miracle of being revived without dying.

|
|
This is a prophecy that the
coming Messiah will be hung high on the cross like a copper snake hung high
on a pole. And it shows that anyone who has faith in the crucified Messiah
will not die but will have eternal life. In this way, the Old Testament is a book
that prophesied about Jesus, the Messiah, who would come to this earth in the
future.

When the Israelites were living
in the wilderness, God commanded them to build a tabernacle to stay in. And
he told them to offer a sacrifice for forgiveness of sins in the tabernacle.
In order to receive forgiveness for the sins the Israelites had committed,
they performed a sacrificial ritual to receive forgiveness from God by
killing a lamb on their behalf. Every time the believers of the Old Testament
era committed a sin, lambs had to be killed over and over again.
|

|
|
The lamb who died for the sins of
believers in the Old Testament symbolizes Jesus, the coming Messiah. Because
Jesus came to this earth, became the Lamb, took upon us all our sins, and
died on the cross, all our sins were forgiven. Everything that was done in
the tabernacle also symbolizes what the coming Messiah will accomplish.

Also, the prophet
Micah prophesied that the Messiah who would come to this world would be born
in a place called Bethlehem.
[But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though
you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who
will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.
(Micah 5:2)]
The New Testament records that Jesus, the Messiah, was born in Bethlehem
according to the prophecy of the prophet Micah.
[After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in
Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem
(Matthew 2:1)]
The prophecy of Micah in the Old Testament was fulfilled when Jesus was born
in Bethlehem.

The Book of Isaiah in the Old Testament contains various
prophecies about the coming Messiah, that is, Jesus. Isaiah, who wrote the
Book of Isaiah, worked as a prophet about 700 years before Jesus came to this
earth.
At that time, God had Isaiah prophesy about the coming Jesus.
|
13
|
|
God
had Isaiah prophesy that Jesus would come to this earth through the body of a
virgin.
[Therefore the Lord himself will give
you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and
will call him Immanuel. (Isaiah 7:14)]
Jesus, who came to this earth as the Messiah, came through the body of Mary,
who was a virgin. Isaiah's prophecy came true 700 years later.
|

|
|
Also, in chapter 9,
the prophet Isaiah prophesied what Jesus, the Messiah, would do when he came
to this earth and what kind of world would be opened at that time.
[For to us a child is born, to us a
son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be
called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
(Isaiah 9:6)]
This baby prophesied by Isaiah represents Jesus, the Almighty God who
came to this earth as the Son of God.
|
15
|
|
The Bible prophesied that when He came to this earth, He would
shine light on those who were trapped in death.
[The people walking in darkness have
seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a
light has dawned. (Isaiah 9:2)]
These words were fulfilled when Jesus came to this earth as the Messiah, won
the death of the cross, was resurrected, and became the true light to all who
believe in him. He became the Prince of Peace who liberated this world.
|
16
|
|
Isaiah also prophesied that the Messiah who would come to this
earth would come through the family of King David.
[Of the increase of his government and
peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his
kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from
that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.
(Isaiah 9:7)]
As Isaiah prophesied, Jesus was born in Bethlehem, David's hometown,
following the lineage of King David, and this came true.

The Old Testament lets us know
how much love God has given us. God has been preparing for a long time since
Adam and Eve sinned to save us.
And as prophesied in the Old Testament, He sent Jesus, the Messiah, to this
earth. Jesus is the only true savior who came to this earth. We must not
forget how precious and valuable our faith is. We must be thankful for the
grace of salvation that God has granted us and strive to live a life worthy
of God's children.
