Jesus Said, Feed My Sheep

2

Bible verse : John 21:17 (NIV)

The third time he said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?"
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, "Do you love me?"
He said, "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you."
Jesus said, "Feed my sheep.

Due to the betrayal of Judas Iscariot, a disciple of Jesus, Jesus was arrested without charge in the Garden of Gethsemane.
The people who arrested Jesus took him to the high priest and told all kinds of lies to make him a sinner. Among the disciples, Peter was the only one who sneaked into the high priest's yard and stayed with the servants to watch Jesus being questioned.

4

However, among the maids and servants in the house, there were some who recognized Peter as a disciple of Jesus. They said to Peter three times, ¡°This man was also with Jesus.¡± However, Peter strongly denied that he was a disciple of Jesus and left the place as if running away. Peter came outside and wept bitterly.

5

Jesus died on the cross, bearing all our sins. And he was resurrected three days later as promised. The resurrected Jesus appeared to many people, showing that he had risen from the dead.

6

A few days have passed since Jesus was resurrected. A total of seven disciples, including Peter, went fishing on a boat on Lake Tiberias.
They fished all night but did not catch a single fish.
At dawn the next day, they returned to the beach.

7

Then a man standing on the beach asked, as if he knew they had not caught any fish. ¡°Hello, haven¡¯t you caught a single fish?¡± The disciples answered the man¡¯s question. "That's right. We haven¡¯t caught a single fish.¡± The man said to them, ¡°Cast the net on the right side of the boat. Then you will catch a fish.¡±

8

The disciples did as the man said and threw the net to the right side of the boat. But at that moment, something amazing happened. Fish that had not been caught all night were gathered into the net. So many fish were caught in an instant that they couldn't even pull up the net.

9

At that very moment, John shouted. ¡°It is the Lord!¡± As soon as Peter heard these words, he wrapped his outer clothes around himself and jumped into the lake to get to Jesus as quickly as possible. The other disciples pulled the net full of fish and rowed the boat to the shore of the lake. Jesus lit a charcoal fire and was waiting for his disciples. Fish was placed on the fire, and bread was also prepared.

10

Jesus said to his disciples, ¡°Come and have breakfast.¡± Jesus himself took the bread and gave it to his disciples. He also gave them fish to eat.

Jesus and his disciples had breakfast together on the shore of Lake Tiberias.

This day marked Jesus' third appearance to his disciples after his resurrection.

11

After he had finished eating with his disciples, Jesus asked Peter a question.
¡°Simon, son of John! ¡°Do you love me more than all these?¡±
Peter answered Jesus. ¡°Yes Lord! Lord, you know that I love you.¡±
After hearing Peter¡¯s answer, Jesus said to him, ¡°Feed my sheep.¡±

12

A little later, Jesus asked Peter again. ¡°Simon, son of John! do you love me?¡±
Peter answered again as before. ¡°Yes Lord! Lord, you know that I love you.¡±
Jesus also said, ¡°Tend for my sheep.¡±

13

The third time Jesus spoke to Peter again. ¡°Simon, son of John! do you love me?¡± Peter was greatly embarrassed because Jesus asked him three times the same question, ¡°Do you love me?¡± It was very difficult for him to think that Jesus now knew everything that he had said three times before that he did not know.

14

Peter made the mistake of denying that he knew Jesus three times. However, Jesus did not criticize Peter for that. Jesus knew how much Peter loved Him.
Jesus forgave Peter and entrusted him with a great task: ¡°Feed my sheep.¡±
Peter became a great preacher of the gospel, preaching Jesus all his life and then being martyred.

15

After saying these words, Jesus gave an amazing prophecy about what kind of life Peter would live in the future. ¡°Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.¡±
Jesus said this because he knew what kind of death Peter would face for his gospel.

16

Peter made the mistake of denying that he knew Jesus three times.
However, Jesus did not criticize Peter for that. Jesus knew how much Peter loved Him.
Jesus forgave Peter and entrusted him with a great task: ¡°Feed my sheep.¡±
Peter became a great preacher of the gospel, preaching Jesus all his life and then being martyred.

17

Jesus, who saved us, is God who even knows where the fish are in the sea.
Just as He knew how much Peter loved Jesus in his heart, He also knows how much we love Jesus. Even though we love Jesus, we can make mistakes like Peter did. However, Jesus does not criticize us but embraces us with love. Just as Peter, who was greatly loved by Jesus, lived his whole life for the gospel, we, who are also loved by Jesus, must also be zealous in preaching Jesus.
