Abraham who showed his Faith

2

"Do not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld from me your son, your only son." Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns. He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.

[Genesis 22: 12-13]

3

Among the significant people in Bible there are many who have a nickname we remember. And the most well known person is Abraham, whom we call the ancestor of faith. Today, we will figure out how he gained this nickname through studying our Bible.

4

Abraham had one son who was given to him miraculously.

And this son was given to him by God when he reached the age of 100.

Abraham and his wife Sarah loved this son who¡¯s name was Isaac.

5

When Isaac turned 13 years old, God had prepared a test.

And this was to test the faith of Abraham.

God wanted to know how faithful Abraham was.

6

God had prepared this difficult test for Abraham. ¡° Abraham, take your son, your only son, Isaac whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him.¡± And these words meant that Abraham was to kill his son and burn him as a sacrifice.

7

This test that God gave to Abraham was very difficult to obey.

But Abraham had decided to obey these words.

He had a faith that God will never do bad things to him.

8

And the next day, he prepared the things for travel.

He also prepared wood for the sacrifice.

Then he began to travel with his son and two servants.

9

The journey to mount of Moriah was a long one that took three days to reach.

But even though journey was long and difficult, he didn¡¯t complain.

At the third day of their journey they reached the place where they could see the mount of Moriah from a long distance.

10

Abraham told his servants to stay there.

¡°You two servants wait here with the donkey.

Isaac and I will worship God on the mountain and come back.¡±

11

Abraham took the wood for the sacrifice and gave it to Isaac.

And he started to climb the mountain with a knife and fire lamp in his hand.

12

While they were climbing Isaac asked his father.

¡°Father¡±,

¡°What son?¡±,

¡°We have fire and wood, but where is the lamb for the sacrifice?¡±

13

And Abraham told his son.

¡°My son Isaac, lamb for sacrificial will be prepared by God for he himself.¡±

Abraham didn¡¯t tell his son he was the sacrifice.

14

And they had reached the top of the mountain; they build an altar with stone.

Isaac also helped his father. And they had put wood at the altar.

15

Abraham tied his son up, but Isaac stayed silently and followed his father.

At last Abraham tied his son and lay him down on the altar.

16

Abraham raised his hand with a knife to stab his son.

He was a man who had so much faith that he would kill his son if God asked.

When Abraham¡¯s knife almost stabbed Isaac, a big sound suddenly came from heaven.

17

¡°Abraham! Abraham!¡± said an Angel desperately

¡°Do not touch the child and do nothing to him. I can see how big is your faith, the faith that you showed me by trying to kill your son, I truly knew how big your faith is.¡± Abraham passed the test with a splendid outcome.

18

Abraham looked up and there in a thicket he saw a ram caught by its horns.

He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, "On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided."

19

Angel of God said to Abraham. ¡°This is the word of God. I promise that I¡¯ll bless you that your heirs will be many as the stars in the sky, and like sand in the ocean and I¡¯ll use your heirs to make this land full of bless, I promise this because you followed my command by trying to sacrifice your own son.¡±

20

We call Abraham as the ancestor of faith because, Abraham passed the test by believing that God would never ask him to do bad thing and acting by faith in God¡¯s order. And so, Abraham got very big blessing from God. I hope that our friends of faith would fulfill all the things by faith that God tells us to do, so you would become a person who receive big blessings like Abraham.
