Eliezer who met Isaac’s Wife by Prayer

Genesis 24:12[NIV]

Then he prayed, "O LORD, God of my master

Abraham, give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.”

Isaac who had been born to Abraham when he turned 100 years old now reached the age to marry. And Abraham didn’t want Isaac to marry a Canaan woman who didn’t believe in God.

So Abraham called his most trustworthy servant Eliezer.

“Now, you go to my home town and bring a woman back to marry Isaac. Bring the woman here and marry her with Isaac in the land that God has promised.”

Eliezer went on a trip to Mesopotamia to find the wife of Isaac as his master commanded him. Eliezer went on a trip with 10 camels and many good things from his master’s house.

Eliezer let the camel rest at the well outside the Nahor castle.

And that moment was the time when the women in the castle came out to get water.

Eliezer prayed to the Lord.

“Oh Lord, you are the God of my master. Please help me to find the wife for my master’s son. Please have grace for my master Abraham.”

“Now I’m standing on the place where women from the castle come to get water. And when I say to one girl, ‘Let me have a drink of water from that pot. ' And if she says, ‘Yes and I’ll also give water to the camels’. I’ll know that she’s the one who will be the wife of Isaac.

 I’ll know that you gave grace to my master.”

Before Eliezer finished his prayer one young woman arrived at the well.

Eliezer went to her and said, “Let me drink some water.”

When she heard those words she allowed easily. “Drink as much as you like.”

And she also said, “I’ll also give your camels water.”

She gave water to Eliezer and also to his camels. When Eliezer saw this he was really happy and surprised. Because the woman answered as he had prayed, he knew God had granted his prayer.

Eliezer quickly asked her, “Who’s daughter are you?”

She replied, “I’m the daughter of Bethuel, the son that Milcah bore to Nahor.”

When Eliezer heard this answer, he put the nose ring on her nose and the bracelets on her wrist. And he bowed down to pray to God with thanks. “I praise the God of Abraham.

God led me directly to get the wife of Isaac as his own younger brother.”

Eliezer went to the father and brother of Rebekah and asked them to give her to Isaac as his wife. Bethuel the father of Rebekah and her brother Laban talked to Eliezer. “For this matter is held by God, so as God has said, Rebekah will go with you and marry Isaac.”

Eliezer worshiped God. And he gave the gold and silver jewels and the garments.

He presented all the precious things to them.

Eliezer wanted to pass this good news to Abraham as soon as he was able.

So the next day he started to go to Canaan.

Rebecca went together with her nurse.

Eliezer told Isaac everything that God had answered for his prayer to meet Rebekah.

And then Isaac received Rebekah as his wife.

Eliezer faced a huge difficulty but he prayed moment by moment to God. And God answered every single one of his prayers. Like Eliezer, we should be faithful people.

Then God will fully answer all of our prayers.
