God Gives the Ten Commandments

2

(Exodus 20:1-2)

And God spoke all these words:

"I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

3

In the third month after the lsraelites left Egypt, they came to the Desert of Sinai.
They camped there in the desert in front of the mountain.

4

God called to Moses from the mountain to tell him something important.
Moses went up to the mountain to see God.

5

God said to Moses, "Go and tell the Israelites.
If you listen to my words and keep my covenant, you will become my kingdom of priests and a holy nation."

6

Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all the words the LORD had commanded him to speak.
The people all responded together, "We will do everything the LORD has said."

7

And the LORD said to Moses, "Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. Have them wash their clothes and be ready by the third day, because on that day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.

8

The Israelites washed their clothes and cleaned their bodies and prepared their hearts. On the third day, Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.

9

Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the LORD descended on it in fire.

The smoke billowed up from it like smoke from a furnace, the whole mountain trembled violently.

10

The LORD descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the top of the mountain. So Moses went up.

11

God let only Moses and Aaron come to God because the other people would have perished.

12

God told Moses the important words that the Israelites must keep.
God gave us ten commandments that the people of God must keep.

13

From the first to the fourth commandment tells us how to live with God.
From the fifth to the tenth commandment tells us how to live with our neighbors.

14

First of all, let's read together from the first to the fourth commandment:
1.
You shall have no other gods before me.
2. You shall not make for yourself an idol.
3. You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God.
4. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.

15

Now let's read from the fifth to the tenth commandment:
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet your neighbor's house.

16

We must keep all of these ten commandments that God has told us directly.
The people who keep the promise, God will lead them forever.
If those who do not keep the promise, God will punish them.

17

We should try to keep these ten commandments of God in our hearts and pray to live as these words say. God helps those who keep God's words with all their hearts and He will make our presence to be like a treasure.
