God
Protected Elijah Until the End
|
2
|
|
So
he did what the LORD had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of the
Jordan, and stayed there. The ravens brought him bread and meat in the
morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook. (I Kings 17:5-6)
|
3
|
|
In
the land of Tishbite, there was a prophet named Elijah.
This
great prophet was brave and he obeyed God well.
|
4
|
|
During
the time of the Prophet Elijah, the King of Israel was King Ahab.
King
Ahab married Princess Jezebel.
Jezebel
was a princess of Sidon, a country that did not serve God.
|
5
|
|
Jezebel
tempted her husband Ahab to build a temple of Baal.
Then
she forced the people to serve Baal. Ahab also served Baal.
Ahab
served false gods and that was a thing which God hates the most.
|
6
|
|
King
Ahab and the Israelites believed that Baal would make their farming go well.
So
King Ahab and the Israelites threw away God and served Baal eagerly.
|
7
|
|
The
Prophet Elijah saw that the king was doing the wrong thing so he went to the
king and told him the words of God.
"I
am a prophet who serves the God of Israel. I swear in the name of our living
God. Until I order to do so, there will be no rain nor dewdrops in all of
Israel."
|
8
|
|
God
knew that King Ahab would kill Elijah. So God led Elijah to where he could
hide from King Ahab. "Leave this place and hide in the Kerith Ravine
which is located east of the Jordan River.
I
will order ravens to bring you something to eat."
|
9
|
|
Elijah
obeyed the words of God.
He
did not bring anything to eat and just hid in the place where God told him.
Elijah
believed that God would feed him as God had promised.
|
10
|
|
After
the Prophet Elijah told King Ahab, it did not rain even once on the land of
Israel.
The
land was drying up and the plants were dying.
God
had answered the prayer of Elijah.
|
11
|
|
The
Israelites had chosen a very foolish way.
God
is the only one who gives rainfall, and makes the farming go well and is the
one who prospers the land but the Israelites had thrown away God and was
serving the false god, Baal.
|
12
|
|
King
Ahab was angry.
"Hey,
quickly find and bring that God of the Prophet Elijah.
Search the whole country and bring him to me."
King
Ahab¡¯s army went forth to find Elijah.
|
13
|
|
God
protected Elijah so that the army of King Ahab was not able to find him.
They
searched the whole country but no one was able to find Elijah.
|
14
|
|
And
as God had promised, every morning and evening, the ravens came to Elijah.
The
ravens had bread and meat in their mouths and they gave them to Elijah.
While
Elijah was staying there, the ravens came everyday and brought food for
him.
|
15
|
|
Elijah
ate that bread and meat with clean water flowing from the Kerith Ravine.
Until
the water of that brook got dry, God protected Elijah.
|
16
|
|
Elijah
was a powerless person and he was weaker than King Ahab but God who helped
Elijah has very strong power which cannot be compared to King Ahab.
Therefore, Elijah did not fear King Ahab. Elijah relied on his strong God and
acted in faith. That is why King Ahab was not able to hurt Elijah.

|
We
became children of God because of our faith in Jesus.
God
became our Abba Father. Sometimes we face hard times because we followed
God¡¯s words but God will surely protect us in those times.
I
hope that you will all become great children of Jesus who can practice this
amazing faith.
