Jesus Drove Out an Evil Spirit

2

(Luke 9:42)

Even while the boy was coming, the demon threw him to the ground in a convulsion.
But Jesus rebuked the evil spirit, healed the boy and gave him back to his father.

3

Have you ever heard about the transfiguration of Jesus? The transfiguration of Jesus happened when He brought Peter, Jacob, and John to a mountain and He changed Himself into an amazing form and talked with Elijah and Moses in heaven.

4

Today's sermon is about an event that happened after the transfiguration of Jesus.
After the transfiguration of Jesus, they all came down from the mountain.

5

Jesus came down from the mountain and went to the disciples.
As Jesus was coming down, one person came to Jesus along with a child.

6

That person begged to Jesus sincerely.
"Teacher, please heal my child. He is my one and only son.
An evil spirit has gone inside of him and it is destroying him."

7

The father of the child continued speaking, "When the evil spirit is inside of him, my child screams loudly. Then, he falls to the ground in a convulsion and foams at the mouth. The evil spirit is hurting my child's body."

8

"A while ago, when you, Jesus, was not here, I came to the disciples and begged them to heal my child but the disciples were not able to drive out the evil spirit."

9

After hearing the father's saying, Jesus looked at the disciples and spoke with a very sorrowful heart."Unbelieving people, I do not know how long shall I stay with you." The disciples were not able to drive out the evil spirit because they did not have faith.

10

Jesus told the father to bring his child. But the evil spirit tried to disturb Jesus.
As the child was going to Jesus, the evil spirit threw the child to the ground and put the child into a convulsion.

11

Upon seeing that, Jesus rebuked the evil spirit.
"Evil spirit! Why are you hurting this child! Come out from the child right now!"
Will the evil spirit come out by Jesus' words?

12

When Jesus rebuked the evil spirit, it came out from the child right away.
Even though the evil spirit is strong, it can never win Jesus.
Evil spirits cannot do anything when Jesus speaks.

13

After the evil spirit left, the child turned back to normal.
Then Jesus gave the child back to his father.
The healed child and his father were so thankful to Jesus.

14

The people were so surprised by Jesus driving out the evil spirit.
They realized once again that Jesus is the mighty Son of God.
They also realized how powerful Jesus is.

15

The disciples were scolded by Jesus because they were not able to drive out the evil spirit so the disciples were very surprised when Jesus drove out the evil spirit. The disciples followed Jesus and learned from him but the reason they were not able to drive out the evil spirit was because of their lack of faith.

16

Jesus showed Himself that God is stronger than any power in this world.
The people were afraid of evil spirits but Jesus showed the people that the evil spirits are nothing in front of God.

17

People are afraid of evil spirits if they don't know this secret. But people who serve Jesus as their LORD, are not afraid of any power. If we have faith, we can cast away any evil spirit in this world. For us to live confidently with no fear, let us work hard to have stronger faith.
