God was with Joseph
2
(Genesis
39:2~3)
The
LORD was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the house of his
Egyptian master. When his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the
LORD gave him success in everything he did,
3
Jacob`s eleventh son
Joseph was loved by his father the most.
But because of his brothers' jealousy, he was sold to Egypt as a slave.
4
At that time, slaves
were treated the same as properties bought with money.
Slaves had no freedom. They only had to obey their masters orders.
5
Joseph was sold to
Potiphar, a captain of Pharaoh`s royal palace guards.
There were many slaves at Potiphar`s house.
6
Although Joseph was
young, he worked the hardest.
He was sincere and he gave his best to every task.
When Potiphar saw Joseph working so hard, he thought that Joseph was amazing.
7
What was more amazing
about Joseph was that the results Joseph got were better than the past
results. Joseph was a slave in Egypt but even in that place, Joseph worked
with believing that God was with him. That is why God helped Joseph.
8
Potiphar realized
that the God Joseph believed was helping him.
So Potiphar trusted Joseph in every thing he did.
He thought that Joseph was the most trustworthy servant of his so he
entrusted Joseph with all of the housework.
9
Joseph became the
secretary in Potiphar`s house and managed everything.
God was with the faithful Joseph. After Joseph became the secretary at
Potiphar`s house, only good things happened. Everything Potiphar owned became
blessed.
10
When Joseph grew up
as a fine young man, Potiphar`s wife who secretly liked Joseph, seduced him.
However, Joseph did not fall for her and rejected her. " Master Potiphar
entrusted everything to me except only you, mistress. And that`s because you
are his wife, so how can I do something that bad? That`s a great sin in front
of God."
11
After that day, the
mistress seduced Joseph every day.
When this woman saw there was no one in the house except for Joseph, she
grabbed his cloth and told him to sleep with her. When this happened Joseph
was so surprised and for him not to commit sin, he ran away with his cloth
left behind.
12
The mistress was so
mad at Joseph because she had been rejected. So she lied to her husband. She
showed the cloth of Joseph and told her husband that Joseph tried to do
something bad.
13
Potiphar sent Joseph
to the royal prison. Joseph was put into the prison even though he didn't do
anything wrong, but even in that place Joseph believed that God was with him.
And truly, God was still with him.
14
When the captain
guard of the prison observed Joseph closely, he realized that he could trust
Joseph. So he let Joseph take care of the things in the prison. The captain
did not bother Joseph with anything he did. This happened because God was
with Joseph.
15
Joseph believed in
God in any difficult situation. God saw the faith of Joseph so God helped him
to be successful in everything he did. Joseph relied onto God in any
situation and God eventually raised him up to be the prime minister of Egypt,
the strongest country of that time.
16
God has almighty
power to help us with whatever difficulties we meet. Let's believe in our
Almighty God like Joseph and become wonderful children of God who rely only
upon God in any difficult time.
