Philip
who Shared Jesus to an Ethiopian Eunuch
2
[Acts 8?/span>35
(NIV)]
Then
Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news
about Jesus.
3
Philip left Jerusalem
because of the great difficulty that he had faced at the Jerusalem church. He
went to Samaria and spread the gospel there as the first missionary then God
gave him a new mission.
4
One day, an angel
came to Philip and told him,
"Go south to the road?the desert road?that goes down from
Jerusalem to Gaza."
5
Philip obeyed what
the angel told him. He did not know what he would do there but he obeyed and
went to the southside of the road?the desert road?that went down from
Jerusalem to Gaza.
6
On
his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all
the treasury of the queen of the Ethiopians.
7
This
man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and on his way to Ethiopia.
The Spirit told Philip, ?Go to that chariot and stay near it.??/span>
8
Then
Philip ran up to the chariot.
Amazingly, the man was reading from Isaiah the prophet out loud.
This man had so much interest in the Bible.
9
?Do
you understand what you are reading???Philip asked.
10
He
said, "How can I, unless someone explains it to me? If you know it
please get into my chariot and explain it to me."
Even
though Philip was a stranger to him, he let him ride in his chariot because
he was curious.
11
The
passage of Scripture the eunuch was reading was about Jesus having to suffer
to clean our sins.
The
eunuch asked Philip, ?Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking
about?"
12
Philip told him that
He is Jesus and he also told the eunuch about lots of things that Jesus had
done while on this earth.
13
As Philip shared the
good news about Jesus, the Holy Spirit came to his heart so that he started
to believe Jesus as he listened. The reason why the angel let Philip to cross
this way was to share the gospel to this man.
14
As
they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said,
?Look, here is water. What can stand in the way of me being baptized??And
they stopped the chariot to baptize the eunuch.
15
Philip gladly
baptized the Ethiopian eunuch.
When they came up out of the water, Philip was no longer there.
The Spirit of the Lord had suddenly taken Philip away.
16
The Ethiopian who had
been baptized, was so happy and he went on his way rejoicing. God had sent Philip to this place to save this certain Ethiopian.
17
Today, God does to us
as he did to Philip. God allows us to remember those friends that we have to
share the good news and He wants us to share the gospel of Jesus. We should
have courage and share the gospel to our friends when the Holy Spirit leads
us so that they too can go to heaven.
