Elisha, the Prophet of Miracles

2

[II Kings 4:33-34]

He went in, shut the door on the two of them and prayed to the LORD.

Then he got on the bed and lay upon the boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hands to hands. As he stretched himself out upon him, the boy's body grew warm.

Among the great prophets of Israel, there was the prophet Elisha.
Elisha was also a disciple of Elijah, the prophet who did not die and went up to heaven.

4

Elisha received special abilities from God. After Elijah went up to heaven, he was able to split the waters of the Jordan River apart and cross it like dry land, and that was the first of his miracles.

5

This happened when Elisha was living in Jericho. The land of Jericho was not so good, so the fruit would fall down before they were ripen. so the people living in that place came to Elisha and asked for help.

6

Elisha brought salt and poured it into the spring. However, after the prophet Elisha spread salt there, the land became a very good land. The fruit did not fall down anymore before riping and the land became very fertile.

7

Also, one day, a woman came to Elisha. "My husband was a student that learned from you but he suddenly died. When my husband was alive, he had debts and now, if I don't pay the debt my two sons will be taken as slaves. Prophet, please help us."

8

Upon hearing that, Elisha asked to the woman, "Is there anything left in your house?" "What is left in our house is only one bottle of oil." Elisha told the woman one solution.

9

She should go and borrow as many empty jars as she could find in her town. Then, lock the door with her two sons and pour the oil into all of the empty jars. Then, he told her to keep filling the empty jars until all of them were full.

10

She followed the words of Elisha and surprisingly, a miracle happened. One bottle of oil changed into oil that was enough to fill all of the jars. She sold those jars of oil and paid all of her debt and lived with her two sons with the remaining money.

11

When Elisha went to a place called Shunem, a couple very kindly served Elisha. They of course prepared delicious food and they even made a small room on the roof, placed a bed, desk, chair and even a candlestick for him.

12

Elisha was touched by their generosity so he promised to give them a child, which the old couple had always hoped for. "Around this time next year, you will have a child." The old lady was not able to believe those words.
However, after Elisha said that, the woman truly got pregnant.

13

God made a miracle of giving a very precious son to that family.
That child was a very big blessing to the couple.

14

However, one day, this child suddenly died by a sudden headache. The mother of the child hurriedly went and brought Elisha. The child was lying on a bed.

15

Elisha earnestly prayed to God to save the child. Then, to warm the body of the child, he laid upon the child. Repeating that for some times, a miracle happened. The child sneezed seven times and opened his eyes again.

16

Elisha brought the child to his mother. That woman fell down in front of Elisha and showed her gratitude. The Shunammite woman served and helped Elisha with a joyous heart so God helped and protected her family till the end.

17

God created this world. With Him nothing is impossible. Elisha is also a human like us but when God was with him, he made amazing miracles. We are believers of Jesus and children of God. If through true faith, we do things that make God happy, God will also make amazing miracles for us and make us do great works of God.
