Women
that were Recorded in the Genealogy of Jesus
2
[Matthew
1:1]
A
record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham
3
Matthew chapter 1 is
also said as the chapter of the family genealogy.
The account of Abraham, the father of faith, to David and until Jesus is
recorded in that chapter.

The chapter of the
genealogy can be divided largely into three parts. It has a unique feature.
From Abraham, the father of faith to King David are 14 generations. Then,
there are another 14 generations from King David until Judah gets captured by
Babylon. Lastly, after being captured by Babylon until to the time of Jesus
had 14 generations.

In the genealogy of
Jesus, there are many people whom we know very well. Abraham the father of
faith appears first, he who followed the words of God and left his hometown
at the age of 75. Then, he went to Canaan and got Isaac at the age of 100.

Jacob, the father of
12 sons, is also recorded. He deceived his father and stole the blessing of
his older brother so he lived 20 years as a runaway but he met God at the
Jabbok River and got his name changed to Israel.

King David, the
second king of Israel, is also recorded. David was very brave that he killed
the giant Goliath with one slingshot. He was also good in playing the harp so
he enjoyed praising God. The son of David, Solomon, built God's temple, is
also recorded.

There also is Josiah,
who became the king at the young age of 8 and fixed the temple of God. While
fixing the temple of God, Josiah found God's book of laws. He was very brave
that he burned and wiped out all the idols in the land.

There is one more
feature of this chapter of genealogy. These people seemed impossible to be
recorded in that chapter of genealogy because they were women recorded in
that man-centered time.
10
The first woman that
appears is a woman named Tamar.
Tamar was the wife of Judah's son.
However, by the law of Israel, she had twin sons by her father-in-law.
11
The second woman that
appears is Rahab. This woman had a low job of being a prostitute of Jericho.
However, she believed God and helped the Israelites so she became saved and
her name was written in the chapter of genealogy.
12
The third woman that
appears is Ruth. This woman was not an Israelite. She was from Moab. However, this woman believed God and married a man named Boaz and got her
name written in the chapter of genealogy.
13
There was a time King
David used his position as king and took away a wife of another man. That
woman was Bathsheba. This woman is also recorded in the chapter of genealogy
as the wife of Uriah.
14
The wonderful thing
is that the women that were recorded in the Bible were people who humanly had
problems. However, the fact that they were written in the most holy genealogy
of Jesus shows the heart of God. What could that heart be?
15
God is showing that
there is no one who cannot be saved. God can save anyone, without minding
where that person comes from. God shows this through recording Rahab and Ruth
in the chapter of genealogy.
16
Also, even someone
who has had a painful past, God can save them.
Tamar and Bathsheba had lots of pain as woman.
However, God recorded even those women's names in the genealogy of Jesus.
17
The love of God is a
great love that can save anyone. There is no one that God cannot forgive. We
also have received that great love. Therefore, we should be people of faith
who thank the great love of God and work hard to do the things that make God
happy.
