Abram
Saved his Nephew Lot
2
[Genesis 14:20]
And
blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.
" Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything.

Abram, the father of
our faith, followed the words of God and left his hometown and his house. He
did a great thing of heading to Canaan by the order of God. When heading to
Canaan, Abram also brought his nephew Lot.
4
God gave great
blessings to Abram, who followed God's command. Abram became rich and had a
lot of livestock. Also, God made Lot, who followed Abram, to become very rich
as well.
5
The land was too
small for Abram and Lot to live together so their slaves often fought with
each other. Without a choice, Lot left for Sodom and Gomorrah to find a
larger land.
6
The land that Abram
lived was a place where anything suddenly could happen.
Abram especially chose 318 men among his slaves and trained them to be ready
for robbers or attacks from other surrounding people.
7
Then, one day, a
slave of Lot hurriedly came to the house of Abram. "Abram, a terrible
thing has happened. Sodom and Gomorrah where Lot lived have lost in a battle
so a lot of possessions and many people were taken. Among them, all the
families of master Lot were taken by them. I ran away secretly to tell this
news."
8
Abram was shocked to
hear that his beloved nephew Lot had been taken captive. Abram hurriedly gathered all his trained slaves.
Abram brought his 318 soldiers and headed out to save Lot.
9
Abram went until a
place called Dan, where the people that took Lot were staying. Abram and his brave 318 soldiers made a surprise attack at night and defeated
all of them. All the enemy troops ran away and the army of Abram won the victory.
10
Abram's nephew Lot
and all of his possessions were regained.
"Uncle, thank you very much. I thank you so much that you came like this
to save me." Lot thanked his uncle Abram for saving his family.

The king of Sodom and
the king of Salem, Melchizedek came out to greet Abram, who was coming back
after winning the battle. Melchizedek, who brought bread and wine in his
hands, was a priest of God Most High.
12
Melchizedek, the king
of Salem blessed Abram. "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of
heaven and earth. Abram praise God Most High, who has delivered your enemies
into your hand."
13
In all the things he
got from that battle, Abram offered a tenth of it to Melchizedek and said,
"God gave me the victory to this battle. Please receive these
gifts."
14
The king of Sodom
went on to say,
"Give me the people that were taken and keep the goods for
yourself."
15
"No, please take
it all. Only leave what my men have eaten and share what belongs to the men
who went with me. I swear to God, I will not take your goods. So you may not
say that Abram has become rich by you." Abram returned all the people
and goods back to the king of Sodom.
16
Today, Abram risked
his life and fought with the enemies to save his nephew Lot who had left his
hometown with him. God saw the righteous heart of Abram and made him win in
battle.
17
Also, Abram offered
to God, who had given him the victory, a tenth of what he had earned. This
was the expression and confession of truthful faith that Abram had towards
God Most High.
18
Just like how Abram
saved Lot, today, let us love and care for the family and friends that are in
the faith. And I hope that you could give a sincere confession of thanks to
our good LORD who always helps us.
