Daughters of Zelophehad who are recognized by God as right
|
2
|
|
[Numbers
27:7]
"What
Zelophehad's daughters are saying is right. You must certainly give them
property as
an inheritance among their father's relatives and turn their father's
inheritance over to them.
|
3
|
|
There
was a man named Zelophehad. This man had no son and had five daughters.
The names of his daughters were:
Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
|
4
|
|
Zelophehad
was a man who lived rightly in faith.
In
the wilderness there was a man named Korah, who opposed Moses and Aaron.
Many people joined the rebellion along
with Korah.
|
5
|
|
God
punishes those who have caused this treasonous affair to open the mouth of
the earth and
swallowed them up.
He caused the fire to fall from heaven
and punished the evil that they did.
|
6
|
|
Those
who have the right faith toward God did not participate in the rebellion.
Among
them, Zelophehad was also included.
Zelophehad was not against the will of
God, but by faith he did not participate in rebellion.
|
7
|
|
Zelophehad
died in the wilderness, unable to enter Canaan as he wished.
At
that time, no matter how many daughters were, there was no longer a legacy
without a son.
Zelophehad's family was also in danger
of being cut off.
|
8
|
|
The
five daughters of Zelophehad were sad and unfortunate that their father's
possession was
cut off because he had no son.
They could not accept that the father
who ran on the promise of God could not
get possession in Canaan.
|
9
|
|
They
decided to take possession of their father and take their own.
So
the five daughters went to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
There Moses, Eleazar the priest,
leaders, and the people were gathered.
|
10
|
|
The
daughters stood before them and spoke.
¡°My
father died in the wilderness. My father was not among the crowd of Korah
who
rebelled against Jehovah. But my father has no son. Why can not the name be
lost in
the family because my father has no son?
When you give possession to our
fathers' relatives, give us possession.¡±
|
11
|
|
This
was not possible under the law at the time. Moses listened to them
and
asked God humbly.
And he told God the opinions of the
daughters of Zelophehad.
|
12
|
|
God
told Moses. ¡°The daughters of Zelophehad are right.
You
give them possession when giving possibilities to the relatives of their
fathers.¡±
God
listened to the wishes of the Zelophehad daughters.
|
13
|
|
In
addition, God has created and kept a new law.
¡°Speak
to the people of Israel, and if a man dies without a son,
all
his possession will return to his daughter.¡±
The Zelophehad daughters allowed a new
law because of their wise speaking to Moses.
|
14
|
|
God
has spoken a new law of justice to all.
¡°And
you shall speak to the people of Israel, saying, 'If a man dies and has no
son, then
you shall transfer his inheritance to his daughter.
And
if he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.
And
if he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father's
brothers.
And
if his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance
to
the nearest kinsman of his clan, and he shall possess it.
And it shall be for the people of
Israel a statute and rule, as the LORD commanded Moses.¡±
|
15
|
|
God
listened to the eager wishes of the five daughters of Zelophehad.
They
responded to their desire to take over the possession of their father.
God allowed them to inherit the
possession of the Father.
|
16
|
|
God
also gave a much greater response than the daughters of Zelophehad had asked
for.
If there is no daughter, it is given
to his brother, and if there is no brother,
it is given by the brother of his
father.
|
17
|
|
The
God who has heard the petitions of the daughters of Zelophehad is our Father.
Let
us be sincere seekers of God when we encounter difficulties in our lives.
God will answer your voice and respond
in addition to what we have not thought of.
