God helping Hagar and Ishmael
|
2
|
|
[Genesis
21:17-18]
God
heard the boy crying, and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven and
said to her,
"What
is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he
lies there.
Lift
the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him into a great
nation."

Ancestor
of Faith The birth of a son between Abraham and Sarah was the year Abraham
was 100 years old. God gave them a son as He promised, and this is the name
of Isaac.
|
4
|
|
Isaac
grew up well and weaned.
Abraham
and Sarah celebrated a great celebration for Isaac's weaning day.
The
people who came together had a good time celebrating Isaac's weaning.
|
5
|
|
Abraham
had a son before Isaac. This son's name is Ishmael.
Ishmael
was the son of Abraham and Hagar, the maidservant of Sarah.
|
6
|
|
Sarah
could not wait for a promise that God would give her son,
but
she sent her maid to her husband, so that Ishmael was born between Abraham
and Hagar. Ishmael was born at the age of Abraham at the age of 86, 14 years older
than Isaac.
|
7
|
|
Sarah's
face, which was enjoying the feast, began to become rigid.
It
is because Ishmael, the son of the maidservant, saw the scene of teasing
young Isaac.
Sarah
was very angry.
|
8
|
|
Sarah
went to her husband Abraham and said, "Cast out that maidservant and his
son.
The
son of this maidservant cannot inherit his possessions like Isaac.
"Abraham,
who heard these words, fell into great pain.
Because
Ishmael was his son through Sarah's maid.
|
9
|
|
But
God appeared to Abraham and gave the conclusion of this matter.
¡°Do
not worry about that child and his mother.
Whatever
Sarah says, listen according to her words.
The
offspring I promised you will come through Isaac.¡±
|
10
|
|
God
made another promise to Abraham. ¡°Ishmael, born of Sarah's maid, is also your
son,
so
I will make his descendants a great nation.¡± Abraham obeyed God's word.
|
11
|
|
Early
the next morning, they prepared a leather bag filled with food and water,
and
gave it to Hagar.
Hagar
and Ishmael were driven out of the house and went out into the wilderness.
They
wandered around the wilderness of Beersheba.
|
12
|
|
Not
long ago, the water that they brought was gone.
Hagar
put his son Ishmael under a small tree. If they could not find the water,
they had to die.
|
13
|
|
Hagar
sat down, looking at Ishmael from a distance, crying, "I can not see my
son die."
Ishmael
also cried because of the pain.
|
14
|
|
God
heard the cry of Ishmael. An angel sent by God revealed to Hagar.
And
angel told Hagar:
¡°What
is the matter, Hagar? Do not be afraid; God has heard the boy crying as he
lies there. Lift the boy up and take him by the hand, for I will make him
into a great nation.¡±
|
15
|
|
God
made Hagar's eyes bright so that the well could be seen.
Hagar
ran to the well, and Hagar brought water to the leather bag and let the child
drink it. God saved two people.
|
16
|
|
While
Ishmael was growing, God was always with him.
Ishmael
grew up in the wilderness and became a great archer.
Ishmael
married an Egyptian woman and became a family.
God
has kept Ishmael and made it a great nation as He promised Abraham.
|
17
|
|
Just
as God has protected Hagar and Ishmael, so do we.
We
must believe that God is with us all the time and that He will deliver and
keep us from
all the difficulties we face.
And
we must be a man of faith who does not lose the courage to meet any
difficulties.
