Mary who cherished to hear the word of the Lord
|
2
|
|
[Luke
10:41-42]
"Martha,
Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many
things,
but
only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better,
and
it will not be taken away from her."

|
When
Jesus was in the world, there was a friend who was very close.
His
friend's name was Lazarus. Lazarus had two sisters named Martha and Mary.
|
4
|
|
One
day Jesus passed through the village and was brought to their home.
The
two sisters were very happy to welcome Jesus.
|
5
|
|
Many
people gathered around Jesus. Jesus even spoke of the kingdom of God there.
Those
gathered there were listening to the words of Jesus.
|
6
|
|
Among
them there was a woman sitting at the feet of Jesus and listening earnestly.
It
was Mary, the sister of Lazarus.
Mary
was listening at the front of the crowd to hear Jesus more clearly.
|
7
|
|
On
the other hand, Martha was working very busy. ¡°What food should I give
Jesus?¡±
Martha
wanted to serve Jesus good food.
|
8
|
|
She
was very busy trying to entertain the people who gathered there.
Martha
was busy in her work and could not care about what Jesus said.
Even
so hard, she could not finish her work.
|
9
|
|
Martha
wanted her sister Mary to help her. So she found her to ask for help.
And
she saw Mary sitting at Jesus' feet and listening to the Word.
|
10
|
|
¡°I
do so many things, but Mary is sitting in front of Jesus without doing
anything ...¡±
Martha
was angry. Martha thought Mary was right to help her.
|
11
|
|
So
she went to Jesus, who was speaking the word, and accused Mary. ¡°Jesus, I am
hosting
all
this alone. But why does Jesus let my sister stay here without helping me?
Please tell
my
sister to help me.¡±
|
12
|
|
Jesus
said to Martha:
¡°Martha,
Martha! You are worried about too much work and cannot resist.
But
there is only one thing that really matters.
Mary
will not be taken away because she has chosen the good side.¡±
|
13
|
|
Jesus
taught Martha what really matters. It was to hear the words of Jesus as Mary
did.
Jesus
praised Mary, who sat at his feet and listened to the Word.
|
14
|
|
Martha
made two big mistakes because of her mistake that
what
she did was the most important thing.
|
15
|
|
The
first one made the mistake of pointing out that Jesus was wrong.
It
is wrong to say why Jesus did not send Mary to help her.
|
16
|
|
The
second was to blame Mary. Mary accused the act of hearing the words of Jesus
without
helping her doing a terrible mistake.
|
17
|
|
Through
today's message, we must learn important lessons.
Jesus
did not say that it was meaningless for Martha to work with the heart to
entertain others.
But
nothing has taught us that we cannot give priority to listening to God's
Word.
First,
Martha would have been greatly praised if she had a zeal for listening
to
the Word of God and then serving others.
We
should not be a Martha who always knows that there is nothing more important
than
to listen to God's Word and to do it.
