Solomon who performed the justice of God
|
2
|
|
[1
kings 2:6]
Deal
with him according to your wisdom,
but
do not let his gray head go down to the grave in peace.
|
3
|
|
King
David, who was faithful to God, handed the throne to Solomon.
David
had made a will for his son Solomon, because he was old and had no more days
to die.
|
4
|
|
David
made this testament. ¡°You must be a great and courageous leader.
Obey
the commandment of the LORD your God, obey the law,
and
do just as God has spoken. Observe what is written in the law of Moses.
Then
you will succeed whatever you do, wherever you go.¡±
|
5
|
|
Then
David made a will to punish those who did evil. ¡°Do not forget what Joab did
to me. Joab assassinated Abner the son of Ner, the mighty general of Israel,
and
Amasa the son of Jether. Punish him in wise ways.
Shimei
is the one who cursed me the day I went to Mahanaim after being driven by
Absalom. When I returned, I promised to God that I would not kill him
because
he came down to the Jordan to meet me. But do not regard him as an innocent
man.¡±
|
6
|
|
On
the other hand, Adonijah, who did not admit King Solomon, but thought he
should become king, tried to take the throne, but Solomon was found guilty
and was killed.
|
7
|
|
There
was a man who was afraid to hear that Adonijah was dead. He was Joab.
To
keep his power after King David died, Joab joined Adonijah as king,
a
rebellion against King Solomon.
|
8
|
|
So
Joab rushed to the tent of the LORD and caught the horns of the altar.
This
news was immediately communicated to King Solomon.
|
9
|
|
King
Solomon commanded Benaiah.
¡°Go
now and kill Joab. Joab was the one who murdered two men at the time of
peace.
Now
he must be punished for it.¡±
Benaiah
struck down Joab, who was holding the horns of the altar at the command
of
the king.
|
10
|
|
Solomon
called and ordered Shimei, who had cursed David King.
¡°You
shall build a house in Jerusalem and live there, and you shall not go
anywhere else
from
Jerusalem, and you shall surely die on the day you leave Jerusalem and cross
the
valley of Kidron.¡±
|
11
|
|
Shimei
answered the king. ¡°The word of the king is just, my lord, I will do as the
king says.¡± So Shimei lived without getting out of Jerusalem.
|
12
|
|
Three
years later, two of Shimei's servants fled to Gath.
When
Shimei heard this, he rushed on a donkey and went to Gath
and
brought two servants back to Jerusalem.
|
13
|
|
When
King Solomon heard this, he called Shimei and said,
¡°Did
I not make you swear by the Lord and warn you, On the day you leave to go
anywhere
else, you can be sure you will die? have you not told me to follow my
command? Why have you broken the promise to the LORD? Why have you not
followed my command?¡±
|
14
|
|
¡°You
see, you have done a lot of evil to my father David. Now the LORD will repay the
evil things you did.¡± Solomon commanded Benaiah to kill Shimei.
|
15
|
|
Joab
shed innocent blood to secure his place, but he did not receive punishment by
using
his
own strength. But God did not leave the sin, but punished him through King
Solomon.
Shimei,
who cursed David king of Israel in the name of God,
was
punished by King Solomon and had to pay for his sins.
|
16
|
|
God
is the punisher of evildoers who do evil and do not repent and do not truly
repent.
As
Joab and Shimei were punished by King Solomon, those who did not believe in
God
and
did evil will come to eternal punishment by Jesus,
who
comes again and judges the whole world.
|
17
|
|
We
believe in Jesus, being a child of God, we must also believe that God is not
only
loving
but also just. A man who believes in the God of justice is a man who feared
God
when
he has done wrong and knows how to quickly turn to the right path.
We
want to be all our friends who always depend on the Holy Spirit in us to keep
evil away and serve God rightly in Jesus.
