Syrian Phenicia Woman's Faith
|
2
|
|
[Mark 7:28]
"Yes,
Lord," she replied, "but even the dogs under the table eat the
children's crumbs."
|
3
|
|
Jesus,
who had preached the gospel in the Jewish region of Gennesaret,
went
to the area of Tyre outside Judea. And he entered a house.
|
4
|
|
Jesus
did not want to tell people that he was there.
But
it could not hide Jesus coming to the town.
People
soon realized that Jesus came to their neighborhood.
|
5
|
|
Upon
hearing that Jesus was there, a woman came.
This
woman sat down on her knees before Jesus.
|
6
|
|
This
woman was a Greek, Syrian Phenicia. This woman was a stranger to the Jews.
The
Jews thought the Gentiles very unclean.
|
7
|
|
The
woman was determined to be humiliated by the Jews and came to Jesus.
This
woman eagerly asked Jesus.
¡°Jesus,
my daughter is now haunted. Please fix my daughter.¡±
|
8
|
|
In
a desperate need of a woman, Jesus said: ¡°We must feed our children first.
It
is not right to take our children's bread and throw it to a dog.¡±
This
was a somewhat shocking answer to Jesus' words.
|
9
|
|
Jesus
said that the ¡®children¡¯ were expressions of ¡®Jews¡¯,
and
the expression ¡®dogs¡¯ was a figurative point of ¡®Gentiles.¡¯
The
reason why Jesus answered this differently was to test
how
great the faith of Syrian Phenicia woman was.
|
10
|
|
But
to a woman who came to Him with expectation and hope for Jesus,
it
would have been a very thick, How did this woman respond to Jesus' reply?
|
11
|
|
The
Gentile woman who listened to the Word more desperately to Jesus.
¡°Lord,¡±
she replied, ¡°even the dogs under the table eat the children¡¯s crumbs.¡±
This
woman is good at crumbling and pleading for mercy to Jesus.
|
12
|
|
Jesus
saw the great faith of this woman.
¡°Woman!
Your faith is great! It will be what you want.
You
may go, the demon has left your daughter.¡±
|
13
|
|
When
she heard that, she rushed home.
And
she went straight to her daughter who was lying in bed and checked her,
and
as Jesus said, the demon was gone and fully restored.
|
14
|
|
At
first, Jesus ignored the favor of Syrian Phenicia woman.
Jesus
also said that he could not fix it by insulting her.
But
this Syrian Phenicia woman did not give up believing in the sincerity of
Jesus.
|
15
|
|
Through
this woman, Jesus showed what kind of person a true believer is.
Those
who have true faith are not to give up their faith in any difficulty,
but
to believe and trust Jesus to the end.
|
16
|
|
The
Jews considered the Gentiles to be unclean. They have ignored the Gentiles
from
the time they were born to be unrelated to the grace of God.
Jesus,
however, through this woman has made known that anyone
who
has true faith can receive the grace of God and be a people of the kingdom of
God.
|
17
|
|
I
hope that we can check our faith through this woman.
Depending
on the situation, faith in Jesus in ones own way is not the right faith.
We
must firmly believe that whatever difficulties we face,
God
is good and that His love for us does not change.
I
want you to remember these words today so that you can be friends
who
are completely trusting in Jesus in any difficulty like this Syrian Phenicia
woman.
