Jesus turned water
into wine
2
[John 2:11]
This, the first of his miraculous
signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee.
He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples
put their faith in him.
3
When Jesus was 30 years old, he began
to preach the Gospel.
There were also disciples who followed
of Jesus.
4
Jesus and his disciples were invited
to a wedding in the area called Cana.
Mary, the mother of Jesus, also
attended the wedding.
Jesus and his disciples went to Cana
to join the wedding.
5
One of the important foods in the
Jewish wedding feast is wine.
So, those who are preparing a wedding
party have plenty of wine.
6
The marriage banquet in Cana was splendidly
done.
Jesus and his disciples were also
having a great time there.
7
However, there was a big problem at
this delightful feast.
The feast was not over, but there was
no more wine.
8
Mary, the mother of Jesus, who came
to know this, came to Jesus and begged,
"This house has run out of
wine."
Mary's words were suggesting to Jesus
that he solve this problem.
9
Jesus, who received Mary's favor,
said to his mother,
"Mother, this thing is not
related to me." This means that Jesus,
who came into this world by the will
of God, would only do God¡¯s will.
10
Mary said to the servants of the
marriage feast.
"Do whatever he tells you."
11
There were six water jars made of
stone in the house.
The jars were originally used for the
purification ceremony of the Jews.
These were the jars that kept the
water used to wash their dirty feet when they went out
and cleaned their hands before and
after eating.
12
Jesus told the servants to fill the
stone jars with water.
The servants filled each pot with
water as Jesus said.
They simply did what Jesus said.
13
After filling the jars with water,
Jesus said again.
"Now you shall take the water
out of the jar and bring it to the master of the banquet."
The servants obeyed the word and took
the water and brought it to the master of the banquet.
14
The banquet master tasted the water
that the servant was offering.
The water turned into an amazingly
delicious wine.
The banquet master was amazed at the
taste of the wine.
15
The Banquet Master praised the groom.
"At other weddings, people
always put out good wines first, then the cheaper wine after the guests have
had too much to drink ; but you have saved the best till now."
The banquet master did not know where
this wine had come coming from.
But the servants knew that the wine
was a miracle Jesus had performed.
16
The miracle that turned water into
wine from Cana's wedding banquet was the first miracle
that Jesus performed. Through that
miracle, God revealed His glory through Jesus.
He showed us that he is the Son of
God.
And the disciples came to believe in
Jesus.
17
Through today's Word we have seen the
miracles that Jesus does.
The water that washes the hands and
feet of men was miraculously turned into wine by Jesus.
Like this, Jesus performs miracles
for us.
Even though we are weak and needy,
Jesus can make us great for His work.
