Red rope saving Rahab and her family
|
2
|
|
[Joshua
2:18]
unless,
when we enter the land, you have tied this scarlet cord in the window through
which
you let us down, and unless you have brought your father and mother, your
brothers and all your family into your house.

God judged those who lived in Canaan
through Joshua.
All who dwell in the land of Canaan
did not serve God, but worshiped false idols,
committed all sins against God, and
God desired to cast them out of the land.
|

|
|
The first judge was Jericho. Before
the war with Jericho, Joshua sent two spies
in a place
called 'Shittim' to examine the situation of the castle.
|
5
|
|
However, these spies have fallen into
a crisis where their identity can be hit.
Rahab, the house where they were
staying, had to hide the two spies in the stalks of flax on the roof and to overthrow the
crisis that would have been caught by returning the soldiers of King
Jericho.
|
6
|
|
Rahab, who disobeyed the soldiers of
the king of Jericho,
went to the spies on the roof and spoke.
"I know that your God
has already given this land to you. So give me a promise now, and kindly
give me kindness, as I have kindness to you."
|

|
|
Rahab's
house was built on a wall of good fortune for spies to escape.
Rahab
dropped the rope and guided her so that the two spies
could
get out of the castle through the window.
"Go up the hill. When you go
there, the King's men will not be able to find you.
If you hide there for three days and
then the king's men return, go your way."
|

|
|
Two spies made two promises to Rahab,
who risked their lives and saved themselves.
"When we return to this land, let
this red line be tied to this window.
And your father and mother, brothers
and sisters and all your family members
must be gathered in your house. Then
you will all survive."
|
9
|
|
The two spies went according to the
words of Rahab and returned safely to Joshua.
They reported to Joshua what had
happened to them in Jericho,
as well as what Rahab had done to help
them.
|
10
|
|
Rahab always kept a red line on the
window after the spies had returned.
This red line is a line of promises
that can save lives when the Israeli army captives Jericho.
|
11
|
|
Finally, the people of Israel began to
turn around to destroy the city of Jericho.
Rahab realized that the time had come
for Jericho to be captured by Israel.
As a second promise with spies, she
has brought all her family to home.
|
12
|
|
On the seventh day when the people
began to circle around the castle,
Jericho Castle collapsed with the
shouting. Joshua told the two spies.
"Go to her home that helped you.
Take her and all her family out as promised."
|
13
|
|
They found Rahab's house with the red
line that they had promised.
And they brought out all the families
in the house.
When Rahab and her family came out
safely, they burned everything in the castle.
|
14
|
|
Rahab and his family were the only
survivors of Jericho.
The red rope that Rahab hung on the
window became the rope of their salvation.
|
15
|
|
Today's story of Rahab in this Bible
story is our own story.
Just as God has judged the sins of
Jericho, When Jesus comes again to this earth, He will come to judge all the people
of this land who did not believe in Jesus and sinned.
|
16
|
|
Rahab was saved because she had put
the promised red rope on the window with the spies. Likewise, on the last day
when Jesus will judge the world, anyone who can be saved from his judgment must keep the red
rope of his promise with Jesus. The red rope of this salvation is
faith in Jesus.
|
17
|
|
Only those who have faith in receiving
Jesus who died on the cross in place of my sin as my Savior will be saved on the Day
of Judgment.
Having faith in Jesus is the promise
of a red rope that leads to salvation between Jesus and us.
|
18
|
|
Friends who are already blessed to
receive Jesus in their hearts and become children of God will more and more
need to observe God's word and act accordingly.
And I hope that those who have not yet
received Jesus in their heart will receive God's blessing of salvation by
praying earnestly for the grace of salvation.
