God
Who Kept David to the End
|
2
|
|
[1 Samuel 19 : 24]
He stripped off his robes and also prophesied in
Samuel's presence.
He lay that way all that day and night.
This is why people say, "Is Saul also among the prophets?"

David married Michal, King Saul's daughter, and
became the king's son-in-law.
King Saul's plan was to kill David by deciding to
marry his daughter Michal.
However, because God was with David, Saul's plan
failed,
and David became an even more exalted person.
|
4
|
|
King Saul hated David's becoming his son-in-law.
Saul began to openly reveal his desire to kill
David.
Saul ordered his servants and his son Jonathan to
kill David.
|
5
|
|
Jonathan was a man who really cared about David.
He whispered to David that his father, King Saul,
was about to kill David.
¡°My father Saul is looking for an opportunity to
kill you.
Tomorrow morning, I will go out with him to the
fields where you are hiding and
talk to him about you, so that no one knows about
you.
Then I will find out from him. I will let you know.¡±

The next morning Jonathan and his father Saul went
out to the fields where David was hiding. Jonathan told King Saul that David
would never do bad things.
And he said with all his heart that he should not
kill David, telling about how he saved
the country by defeating Goliath.
|

|
|
Upon hearing his son Jonathan's words, King Saul
promised, "I swear to Jehovah,
but I will never kill David." Jonathan told David
that he had made a promise to David that King Saul would not kill him. Then
he brought him back to the palace and allowed him to stay with King Saul. God
protected David through Jonathan.

|
David went to war with the Philistines again and
made great strides.
King Saul again grew alert and anxious toward David.
For King Saul, David calmed his heart by playing the
harp.
|
9
|
|
Saul suddenly changed while watching David playing
the harp.
He threw the spear he had in his hand at David.
David narrowly avoided the spear.
That spear was strongly attached to the wall.
David escaped Saul that night and returned to his
home.
|

|
|
King Saul
ordered his servants. ¡°Go to David's house right now.You are surrounded by
the house, but in the morning, when David walks out the door, kill him.¡± King
Saul's servants went to David's house and began guarding the door to prevent
David from fleeing.
|
11
|
|
David's wife Michal said to David. ¡°If you don't run
inside tonight, tomorrow you will die
at my father's hands. You have to run right now to
save your life.¡±
Michal sent David out through the window.
David was able to escape safely from the soldiers surrounding
the house.
|
12
|
|
Michal put an idol on David's bed and decorated it
as if David was lying down.
The next morning Migal told the soldiers who came to
capture David that David was sick
and could not come out. King Saul heard this news
¡°Come with your whole bed. I will kill David.¡±
|
13
|
|
The soldiers who went to get David's bed knew that
David's bed had idols and goat hair,
not David. Again, the plan to kill David failed.
God protected David's life through Michal.
|
14
|
|
King Saul did not give up killing David. Saul found
out that David was in refuge where
Samuel was, and sent soldiers there. When they
arrived there, the Spirit of God came upon them and began to prophesy. Even
after this, two more times were sent,
but the Spirit of God came and prophesied.
|
15
|
|
When he heard this, Saul was angry and set out to
kill David himself.
When Saul arrived there, the Spirit of God also came
upon Saul.
Saul also began to prophesy following the guidance
of God's Spirit.
A strange thing happened in front of Samuel, taking
off his clothes,
lying down all day and prophesying.
|
16
|
|
In the meantime, David escaped safely. Even Saul,
who was king, could not do David with God. God protected David through
Jonathan and Michal, who are closest to Saul.
In more dangerous situations, the Spirit of God
appeared to protect David.
|
17
|
|
The wicked King Saul tried to kill David in various
ways, but Saul's will did not come true.
Saul could not harm David because God promised to
make David king in the future.
God is the one who surely fulfills the words and
promises He said.
Today we too have received God's amazing promise
through Jesus.
It is the promise of making us children of God.
We believe that the grace of God's protection always
exists in us as the church,
and I hope that all of our friends who live a good
life like God's children.
